Our Teachers

Miss Melissa Rivera - Miss Rivera is the founder and director of Little Sunshines Early Learning Center and Preschool Holds a Bachelors degree in Humanities, Music major, a Masters degree in Fine Arts from The California Institute of The Arts, and is currently enrolled in an early childhood education associates degree program. From a very young age, I have enjoyed taking care of children - I helped take care of my cousins when we were growing up, and the best memories of my childhood are of us playing outdoors and using our imagination. I have two years of experience as a nanny for infants and toddlers. I was inspired to start my own program because I wish to provide the same safe, joyful environment I had growing up, and create a positive impact in the lives of the students and families I work with.

Miss Melissa has given incredible personalized childcare. The kids spend time outdoors. She plans fun activities for them, sometimes inviting music or sports teachers. The kids are inside a safe complex apartment at Park La Brea. I would highly recommend her daycare.

So thankful for Wonderschool, Melissa Rivera and the opportunity for our son to have such a wonderful place to develop and learn, despite the pandemic craziness.

Philosophy

Our goal is to provide our students with a broader perspective on the world around them through Montessori-inspired, self-directed play and through learning how to communicate in both Spanish and English. We believe that developing student’s creativity and imagination in their early childhood years will provide them with problem-solving skills that will benefit them life-long.

We believe in the limitless potential of children. So far, 100% of our pre-k students that applied have been accepted into LAUSD elementary gifted programs.

The Montessori approach aims to teach kids how to independently learn, trust their capacities, and be nurtured throughout their development. As a hybrid-inspired program, we focus on each child’s self-expression, constant learning, imagination, and helping them explore different kinds of leadership through group play. Outdoor play is key in our program. We believe that by teaching our students both Spanish and English, they will have increased awareness and excitement of discovering the world around them.

We are a year-round program.

Who is Rose? The combination of my parents’ names. (Ro)bert +Toma(Sita) = Rosita. Rosita means little pink. Which I translated to Rose.

Location

Located near The Farmers Market, The Grove and Park La Brea.

About our program

LEARNING THROUGH PLAY

We borrow from different educational modules like Montessori, Waldorf, STEAM, Reggio Emilia, and Piaget to immerse our students in a program that allows their intellectual, social, emotional, and creative development. Providing first and foremost important age-appropriate developmental activities that will lead to kindergarten readiness.

The goals are:

•To develop a positive self-concept and view self as worthwhile

•To develop a curiosity about the world

•To develop sensory exploration skills

•To develop prosocial behavior skills

•To value own rights as well as those of others

•To develop language skills, both listening and speaking

•To develop fine-motor skills

•To develop gross-motor skills

•To develop problem-solving skills

•To promote an appreciation of cultural diversity

SPANISH IMMERSION

Taking into consideration the current language skills of the students they are guided and encouraged to practice Spanish with confidence.

PERFORMING ARTS: DANCE, MUSIC, THEATER

Twice a week, a team of art experts will guide children into self-expression with kindness. Allowing them space to explore and create.

GARDENING

A beautiful yard is seen from the window of our main area. In that safe area, students will practice gardening skills twice a week. Gardening gives students a sensory and social experience that also makes them aware of the importance of taking care of the environment.

ARTS and CRAFTS

Through arts and crafts children develop fine motor skills, self-expression, creativity.

MATH AND SCIENCE

Experiments, projects, and manipulatives will help the children develop concepts that encourage methodical, critical thinking

SPORTS, YOGA, MEDITATION

Through sports, children develop better use of gross motor skills and habits that can last a lifetime.

LIFE SKILLS

At Rose Day Care we believe in kindness and positive conflict resolution. Students will have simple tasks that they will be accountable for such as tidying up after play or eating, and time management.
