I, Cheryl Moss, am the owner/director of A Mother’s Touch Center for Child Development. Degreed in Education, I spent 14.5 years at home raising our six children. Another 14.5 years was spent as a Family Development Specialist for a Pennsylvania Family Center. Home based, I educated parents in child development, administered developmental screenings to detect early childhood delays, and taught parents the importance of play. Most of my training was in brain development in the first 5 years. From my experiences and passion for children, A Mother’s Touch Center for Child Development was birthed in January 2007. We have been gardening with our children since 2016. I have presented workshops about kid friendly gardening at NAEYC, PA Early Childhood Summit, National CACFP (Child and Adult Food Program), and PA NEN( Pennsylvania Nutrition Education Network).

Philosophy
Our onboarding philosophy is based on the belief that every child is born to learn, and we strive to collaborate with them at their own pace. In line with our additional philosophy at A Mother’s Touch, we deeply believe in nurturing each child holistically by providing opportunities for the development of their intellectual, social-emotional, language, and fine/gross motor skills. Through developmentally appropriate practices, children are encouraged to learn at their own rhythm, with a focus on offering various experiences to acquire new skills. Additionally, we prioritize outdoor activities throughout all seasons, ensuring that children have ample time to explore and play in nature. With a small and intimate staff ratio, we approach child care with patience, love, and care - embodying the essence of “a mother’s touch.” Furthermore, we see ourselves as pillars of support for parents, fostering a relationship of trust that allows them to feel confident leaving their children in our capable hands.
About our program
- Gardening with the children helps to develop good eating habits, responsibility, and great stem opportunities. Children learn where their food comes from. We go everyday till 20 degrees or weather permitting. Kids love getting wet while watering the garden. We have extra snow pants , boots, waterproof gloves. Most of food is homemade. Very little processed foods or canned goods served. Most vegetables and fruits are purchased fresh or frozen. In the yard in a peach tree that the children enjoy in late August.
- We do whatever we can to ensure a balance in the children in all areas if development. We understand that each child learns differently and try to encourage and direct them in their style so they can be successful.
