Filozofi
At Derrick Hunter Center, we believe that play is the foundation of children’s learning and development. Play is not separate from learning—it is the way children naturally explore the world, make sense of new experiences, and build the skills they need for life.
Learning Through Exploration
Through play, children engage in hands-on, meaningful experiences that allow them to experiment, solve problems, and discover how things work. Whether building with blocks, creating stories in dramatic play, or exploring nature, children develop curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking.
Social and Emotional Growth
Play is a social activity. As children play together, they learn how to communicate, collaborate, negotiate, and resolve conflicts. These experiences nurture empathy, self-confidence, and resilience, forming the foundation for healthy relationships and lifelong social skills.
Building Academic Readiness
We view play as the pathway to future academic success. Through play, children practice early literacy, math, and science skills in ways that are engaging and joyful. Sorting, counting, storytelling, and experimenting all emerge naturally in a playful environment, helping children build strong foundations for later learning.
A Joyful, Child-Centered Approach
Our educators act as guides and partners in play, observing children’s interests and extending their learning through thoughtful questions, materials, and opportunities. By honoring children’s choices and imaginations, we empower them to see themselves as capable learners and thinkers.
