Our Teachers
Hi! I am Rocio, the Director of Tiny Champs. I grew up in the San Jose area and recognized the need for great education and care opportunities for families. I started my program because I had my own little ones and I quickly became invested in providing support for all children as my own have grown up and gone on to middle school. Running my program has taught me the critical importance of the first five years of development for children and I strive to support parents and children in their goals!
As a provider I participate in the early literacy SEEDs program, as well as Quality Matters, which has helped me develop a program that supports the whole child. These programs and the many other courses that I have taken are why I include everything from access to health screenings, to an enriching curriculum supported by independent learning spaces in this program.
You will also meet my assistant (and sister!), Cristina. She worked at a childcare center previously, but came back to our home-based program because of the freedom and flexibility it afforded her to get to know children on a deep level. Cristina is a fun addition to our teaching team and gives great story times!
Philosophy
It is the philosophy of Tiny Champs Day Care that children learn and grow when they are provided a foundation of developmentally appropriate experiences. All children can succeed in a safe and nurturing environment, and we are able to provide that in our open backyard and child-centered space. At Tiny Champs Wonderschool, we interact with students in English and Spanish to support their vocabulary development and stretch their language capacity.
Location
Tiny Champs Wonderschool is located in a warm, inviting single family home in the East Foothills of San Jose. Please note that in order to find our space, you must take the access road right off of Alum Rock Ave, and we are minutes from Rt. 680.
Our program is in a separate addition from our home that provides students with an independent space to learn and grow. Our fenced-in backyard is shaded by a large avocado tree and gives ample space for daily play.
About our program
At Tiny Champs Day Care we believe children learn best through meaningful play. Our play-based, child-centered program reflects the integration of physical, cognitive, social, emotional, language, self-help and aesthetic areas for the total development of the child. Meaningful play encourages curiosity, discovery, and problem solving, which allows individual growth and development of a positive self-image.
We take care to build a community of learners. Every day we come together for circle time, where we have a chance to connect, talk about the day, sing, dance, and work on our social-emotional skills. Circle time provides an opportunity for us to build communication skills, practice turn-taking, express ourselves, and be members of the group.
We value child-directed learning. Children love their days spent at Tiny Champs because there is so much choice in how they spend their time. Whether it’s our outdoor space, music, art, the sandbox, or reading, there is always something new to explore.
We recognize that parents are the child’s first teachers. We believe that children learn best when parents are involved in their educational program. The primary bridge between home and school is the involvement of family and community. As a Tiny Champs family, you’re joining our community full time, not just 9-5. We look forward to partnering with you in supporting your child’s development.
