Philosophy
At Little Foot Academy & Wonderschool, we believe that early education shapes and develops the whole child as a learner, community member, and person. Using the philosophy of High Scope, we strongly believe that children reach their full potential by developing a positive self-concept through a balance of self and teacher-directed activities within our daily schedule. The interests of the children in our care serve as the bedrock of our curriculum, and we view each unique choice as a learning opportunity. With the philosophy of High Scope and academic opportunities afforded our students every day, each child will explore, learn and grow at their own pace as they navigate decision-making independently, with us, and amongst each other.
We will support the children with an enriched environment that will enhance each child’s emotional, social, creative, physical, language and cognitive development. We will serve as positive role models, creating an environment that is safe, warm and nurturing.
We strongly believe parents/guardians and providers are partners in a child’s care and education. Our whole family program supports this relationship through daily parent provider interactions and regularly scheduled conferences.
Location
Little Foot Academy & Wonderschool is located in a welcoming, bright single family home at the end of a safe neighborhood in the Alum Rock neighborhood in East San Jose. We are minutes away from 680, CA-130 and close to both the San Jose Regional Medical Center campus and the intersection of Story and King. Parents enter our childcare through a separate gate and children spend their time in our home and fenced-in play area behind our home.
Our learning environment has all of the critical areas that provide for young learners - including a book nook, science space, dramatic play area, music area, and various other spaces for children to explore. Our backyard has a covered portion that makes outdoor play accessible regardless of weather.
About our program
Upon entering Little Foot Academy, it is immediately apparent that every inch of the space has been thoughtfully crafted to support child development. From the pet fish that lives in our science area to the decorative tree from which student work is hung, we hope that it is clear how much we celebrate the ability for students to explore and discover. Our outdoor area has a homemade sand table water table as well as bikes, scooters, and swings that support gross motor development.
We pride ourselves on preparing students for school and life. Children at Little Foot will get an academic foundation that sets them up for their longterm educational pursuits, but more importantly we believe in supporting socioemotional development. Students at Little Foot leave with a strong sense of who they are and are passionate learners because of the curriculum that we develop to meet them where they are and the emphasis we put on their ability to discover through play.
We have stayed in touch with many Little Foot graduates who are now advancing through their middle school, high school, and college experiences, which we believe is a testament to the foundation that we created here in our home care.
