Our Teachers
Maria Delgado has spent over a decade working with students in an early education setting. She is one of only 30 programs that have been qualified by the First Five program in Santa Clara county and has been a proud participant in the Early Head Start program. She takes pride in providing new activities for students and is focused on ensuring that all students in East and South San Jose have high-quality options for child care.
Philosophy
Lulu’s Spanish-Immersion Family Care and Wonderschool strives to recognize each child’s need to grow and develop at his or her own pace. We provide an atmosphere that promotes the social-emotional, cognitive, language , physical, and creative development of young children. Activities combine both structured, teacher-oriented and unstructured, child-oriented experiences that encourage exploration and discovery. Our aim is to assist each child to reach his or her full potential by providing the building blocks for successful life experiences.
The main emphasis of our program is to provide the foundation to develop the child’s natural inner-discipline and control and self-confidence. A feeling of caring and respect for other (as well as respect of one’s self) is fostered in our program.
All engagement with students is done in Spanish. At a young age, children are able to rapidly develop their language skills and we see them acquire conversational ability in Spanish at a rate similar to what they would speak at home!
Location
Our program is located in the Meadow Fair neighborhood of San Jose, nestled near Tully Rd and Capitol Expressway in a safe neighborhood behind the Eastridge Mall.
Our home has been transformed to welcome students into two well-lit rooms that serve as learning spaces and our backyard is surrounded by a colorful fence that contains multiple play areas and space for students to run, play, or ride in a bike.
At times, we will take a field trip to the playground at the local elementary school, O.B. Whaley.
About our program
Students in our program are able to engage with their surroundings and are encouraged to explore. We use open-ended questions during free play and consistent communication to help students develop a strong vocabulary and gain confidence in their Spanish-speaking abilities. This language acquisition is encouraged through unit-based curriculum that is guided by student interest and woven into our daily activities.
Parents who enter the space will see student work regularly hung up on the walls and students take pride each day in “showing off” what they have accomplished each day. This level of ownership gives students confidence in their academic journey and it helps them build a solid foundation in their academic journey.
In addition to academic development, we believe that student health is critical to their growth. Children receive two health screenings during the year from a local health practitioner that ensure their hearing and vision are aligned with their age-specific development.
