Our Teachers

Hello! I am Shamila Fernando, the founder of Shamila’s Montessori Wonderschool. I was inspired to start my own program because I saw a need for high-quality care in my community. I have 20 years of experience teaching the Montessori philosophy and have a true passion for working with young children.

Philosophy

Welcome to Shamila’s Montessori Wonderschool!

We are pleased to welcome you as a family in our beautiful Montessori program. Our in-home school accepts children from newborns to 5 years old. With infants, we encourage them to learn through play and exploration in our dedicated infant play space. With toddlers aged 2.5-5 years old, we spend ample time developing individual academic and social skills.

We invite you to visit our facility and see for yourself the quality education environment that we have designed to give children the best possible learning experience. It is our pleasure to serve and provide care and safety for your child.

Location

Shamila’s Montessori Wonderschool is located in a warm, charming single family home in the Norwalk neighborhood.

Children will have some outdoor time everyday in my private yard or outdoor space. Children need space to run, jump, and move!

At Shamila’s Montessori Wonderschool, I want to provide a loving home away from home and I treat all children in my program like my own.

About our program

We’ve designed our care environment with play and learning areas that allow children to explore various developmentally-appropriate activities based on their interests. Some of our favorite areas include our block area (for gross motor skills and problem solving), manipulatives and math area (for fine motor skills and beginning math concepts), and reading / cozy area (for literacy, relaxation, and respite).
