Philosophy
Building on the philosophy that young children learn best through play and exploration of their environment, a large part of their day is spent focusing on building a strong social and emotional foundation that is fostered through play and peer interaction. Each child is valued for who they are and what they bring to their environment. We also believe that families should be included in every aspect of their child’s care and development. We believe in a multi-level, multi-disciplinary approach to early childhood education that encourages children to learn at their own rate and pace, to participate in creative and social activities as well as traditional play. From Spanish and English language and literacy development to social skills and creative expression, the children at our child care are constantly being exposed to new activities and environments in which to thrive. We build on the strengths and interests of each child to help build a solid foundation where they can develop their futures.
About our program
Imaginative Play Imaginative play provides the opportunity for children to practice skills and develop knowledge. We believe in a great deal of hands-on materials, introducing concepts through learning games, and encouraging children to operate independently, which enhances their self-esteem. Children should be encouraged to be self-directed and self-disciplined. Teacher led activities and group games also help prepare the child to cooperate and follow directions, to develop the ability to think and problem solve, to make friends, develop communication skills and to be well- mannered and polite. Outdoor Play Physical play is used to develop small and large muscle groups and coordination skills. Coming from a very culturally diverse background we recognize that children are influenced by social and cultural concepts; therefore, we strongly believe in incorporating a multicultural component in all activities, including a foreign language program that fosters an environment of mutual respect, and promotes healthy learning and development. Reading Time We believe in taking every opportunity to read to children as a group and one on one. This includes interactive story times as well as reading a magazine article of interest to an older child or group. Reading is a natural and therapeutic process which opens wide the entire world to every child exploring and mastering the art. Young children look forward to the enchantment of story time, afterwards practicing holding books and retelling stories in their own words. Having fun with colorful picture books, using them in play and enjoying being read to on a daily basis; these experiences prepare the way for a lifelong love for reading.
