Our Teachers

I began my career caring for children in 1988 because I wanted to be able to work in my own home to care for my own children. In that same year, I was able to receive my first child care license for 6 children because I was a volunteer at the Head Start Center that my oldest daughter was attending. At the time I had no other family in the country, had no one else to care for my children, and was not completely confident in leaving them at a child care facility. With the help and support of one of the teachers at the Head Start Center, I decided to gain my own child care license and start caring for other children out of my home.

In 1995, I was able to gain a license to care for 12 children and in 1998 I began taking classes in Child Development and General Education at East Los Angeles College. Since then I’ve seen my dream grow and accomplished many goals such as completing my GED, becoming the first Accredited Provider in the communities of Boyle Heights and East Los Angeles, and receiving a certificate in Supervision from Pacific Oaks College. I’ve now cared for about 300 children since I began my journey and with the help of family and the families that have been involved in my program, my dream has continued to grow. I received my A.A. Degree in Child Development, and I am now more confident in continuing to grow my program and serving as a role model for growth in my community.

Philosophy

At Magdaleno Family Child Care Wonderschool, we believe that a child is a unique individual. We respect their culture, language, religion, race and we adapt to the necessities of the children. We believe that children develop and learn when they are offered activities appropriate for their age, level of development and physical or special needs. Our goal as child care providers is to guide the children, give them an opportunity to explore, promote a family-like, academic, natural and safe environment and that the children can develop to their full potential in the physical, social/emotional, cognitive and motor skills. We believe and thrive on building strong communication between children, parents, and providers.

Our program offers a familiar environment that encourages children to learn and explore freely. We believe that every child is an individual and every child has the ability to learn in different ways; therefore, a proper early education according to their necessities and abilities and will be able to accomplish greater goals in the future. We give them a self atmosphere. We also aim to establish a strong sense of communication with parents so that their child’s development can extend to his or her home. Through this, we work to offer children a wholesome and fruitful development.

Location

Magdaleno Family Child Care Wonderschool is located in a welcoming, warm single family home in the Boyle Heights neighborhood.

We’ve designed our care environment with play and learning areas that allow children to explore various developmentally-appropriate activities based on their interests. Some of our favorite areas include a block area (for gross motor skills and problem solving), dramatic play area (for self-expression and empathy), and reading / cozy area (for literacy, relaxation, and respite).

Children will have some outdoor time every day in my spacious outdoor classroom. Children need space to run, jump, and move!

At Magdaleno Family Child Care Wonderschool, I want to provide a loving home away from home.
