Hello. My name is Marcia and I am the Director/Owner of Discovery Nook Wonderschool. After 35 + years of caring for and working with children in so many different settings and capacities, I finally decided to take the leap into owning my own Family Day Care. It has been a life long dream ! My love and passion for working with children has led me to so many wonderful and fulfilling experiences with children and their families. I have worked more personally with families as a Nanny and Babysitter. My career has also helped me learn and implement different philosophies as a Head Teacher. I have worked with Montessori, Reggio Emilia, Bank Street, Play-Based, Head Start and Religious programs. My degree from Pace University is in Early Childhood and Child Psychology. Having my own Family Day Care will enable me to continue working with so many wonderful children and families on a more intimate and personal level. I’m looking forward to meeting you and your one-of-a-kind child!

I have known Marcia for at least 6 or 7 years at this point. She was the first person I got to work with during high school to get some teaching experience. Marcia taught me so many things along the way and plays a big role in me being a high school teacher today. She is patient, soft spoken, and beyond kind. She had such a way with the kids at the daycare and she was who I knew I wanted to strive to be in my future of teaching. Your children will be well taken care of and will learn more than you could ever imagine with Marcia.

Marcia is a highly skilled educator who is also knowledgeable, reliable and passionate. I had the pleasure of working with her before and while I was her assistant many years ago, I have become a more knowledgeable teacher because of what she taught me. Marcia is one of kind and continues to be a light to families, children and myself.

My son, who has special needs, was in Marcia C’s room. She made him comfortable in a new environment immediately. Marcia also made me very comfortable, I knew she was attentive to my son and she was available to talk to me about any concerns I had. She made suggestions to help him and me so that he got the care he needed. Marcia helped my son to build a foundation that helped him progress in school and in life. Every child should be lucky enough to have Marcia as their teacher.

“ Marcia is the most amazing caretaker and teacher. She is trust worthy, kind, patient and gentle. She was with our family for over a year and we are sad to see her go. But we know she is on to bigger things. I would highly recommend Marcia and her daycare to anyone. Please feel free to reach out and ask me any questions. “

Marcia was a part of our family. She helped raise our little girl. Marcia is trust worthy, honest, kind and AMAZING! We know she is going to have an amazing daycare. She will be missed. But she will always be a part of our lives. We were so very lucky to have her!

Philosophy
My approach with children is to respect and love them as an individual, first and foremost. Each child comes with his/her own strengths, personality, attributes and curiosities. I believe that it is our place as educators to foster that individual child and guide them with love and respect. I also believe that setting a positive, nurturing love of learning from early on helps the child throughout his/her lifetime. Children learn through play! Together, at Discovery Nook Wonderschool, we will share experiences and learn with our friends in a positive, nurturing environment. We will learn through self guided play, based on the individual child’s interests and preferences. We will also learn through weekly thematic activities and games that will teach basic fundamental skills to prepare your child for Kindergarten and beyond. Your child’s day will be filled with activities that will foster and nurture the whole child: emotionally, cognitively, socially and creatively. Another important aspect of teaching is exposing the young child to enrichment programs such as yoga, art, music and dance, cooking and sports. These enrichment programs help promote critical thinking and problem solving. They help make the child’s learning more enjoyable and rewarding. This is the whole child approach that I will encourage and support at Discovery Nook Wonderschool!
About our program
Discovery Nook Wonderschool is a place for your child to grow and learn, both as an individual, and as part of a classroom community. I will support and challenge your child with basic learning skills for school readiness, and also encourage him/her to choose activities that are of their own personal preferences. They will be enriched with extracurricular activities as well as learn and grow through play-based thematic projects and curriculum. Your child will play, dance and sing while learning new skills! Discovery Nook Wonderschool is a place for your child to feel loved, cherished and cared for in a home away from home.
