Our Teachers

Hi! I am Maria. I have been running my childcare for over 16 years and am also a mother myself. I am originally from the Dominican Republic and have taken 45 units of classes focusing on childcare developments so I can provide the best care possible. I love working with children and it is very rewarding to watch each child blossom and grow to the best of their potential. When I am not running my childcare, I enjoy helping others, learning new things, and traveling.!

Maria and her staff are wonderful. We are really glad we're there. I understand it can be difficult to get outside, especially now.

Maria has been wonderful. Very accommodating and welcoming as this is our child's first daycare experience. Looking forward to daily updates via the use of daily connect which is something that was mentioned to us as orientation. *The one star for outdoor activity is obviously only because the weather is cold.

Philosophy

Here at Maria’s Wonderschool, I seek to create a loving and nurturing environment for all the children in my care. I focus on providing an environment where each child gets individual attention and can develop themselves to thrive in the world. I work on developing each child’s cognitive, social and emotional skills. It is my goal that each child in my care feels supported, nurtured and loved. I try my best so that my childcare feels like a home away from home!

Some things that are special about my program:

We are hands-on. That simply means that we are active participants in my program. I love working with manipulatives– playdough is a personal favorite. Children learn by playing in a hands-on way, and in my program, I allow the children to follow their curiosities, discover new things on their own, and with other children in the program.

We are child-centered. This means that the child’s needs come first and we want to ensure that every child is getting the individualized care and nurture that they need. We want children to leave our program and feel prepared to the face the world (i.e. Kindergarten). We teach them how to share, care, and deal with tricky situations with other children in the program.

Location

We are located in a welcoming apartment in Harlem just blocks away from Central Park! Our program is very easily accessible by Subway, right next to the B/C and 2/3 trains.

With the park so close, we make sure to get outside everyday (weather permitting) so that the children are able to run, jump and play! I believe it is essential to get out and experience nature to help children understand themselves and the world around them.
