Myriam Etienne, Founder and Primary Provider

Hi! I am Myriam Etienne, the founder of and main provider at Etienne’s Family Wonderschool. I have lived in Park Slope for 20 years and in that time have run my child care program. It has always been my dream to design my own space where children from all backgrounds can blossom and grow. I have an Associate’s Degree in early childhood education and I have 20 years of experience working with young children both in home-based child care programs and at licensed centers prior to starting my own program. I am also a parent and have raised my son, who is now 23 years old. I am so happy I can continue that love of caring for others’ children at Etienne’s Family Wonderschool.

Ms. Vanessa, Assistant Teacher and Provider

Hello! I am Vanessa Charlemagne and I have been working with infants and toddlers at Etienne’s Day for more than 10 years. I was born and raised in Haiti and I came to the United States at young age. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. I am passionate about working with children and their presence and enthusiasm always brightens my day!

Testimonials

“I highly recommend Myriam Etienne to anyone looking for a loving, patient, and devoted childcare provider. The overall climate of Myriam’s home is one of laughter, compassion, and respect for one another. Myriam and her colleague have been such a blessing to us. Not only is Myriam extremely experienced and patient, she is unbelievably warm and “real” in the best sense. I always feel that she is telling me her honest opinion about our child’s needs and development, while maintaining a consistently professional and kind attitude. She has been flexible and extremely helpful when we needed extra help due to a family illness. Moreover, she always made us feel that her actions were in the best interest of our family as a whole.

As we approach the end of our time with Myriam (Julia will be 3yrs old in a couple months), I know that we have made a long lasting friend in the neighborhood. Meeting and making friends with someone you love and respect is always a treasure- but being able to share that person with my young daughter is more than I could have hoped for when I first set out for early child care.” - Erin (mother of Julia)

I truly cannot say enough good things about Etienne Family Daycare. Myriam and her assistant Vanessa are kind, loving and patient and my son lights up when he sees them in the morning. It’s immediately apparent when you walk through the door that the environment is one of joy, caring and respect and as a result the bond the children share with each other and with Myriam and Nessa is really special. Myriam feels like a member of the family and we can’t imagine our lives without her. “

“We have nothing but kind words to say about Myriam Etienne’s Family Daycare.  Our 18 month old son has been enrolled since he was 10 months.  Our son is constantly learning new songs and movements. Both Myriam and her assistant Vanessa are kind, caring and patient. We trust them with our son and are lucky to have found them. “

Philosophy

Hello and welcome to Etienne’s Family Wonderschool! We are a proud child care program that has been in operation for over 15 years. We love our families deeply and are so happy we can provide our Park Slope community with high quality child care. At Etienne’s, we believe that children grow and thrive when they feel safe, loved, and nurtured.

Our aim is to provider an environment that is nurturing, educational, safe, and joyful for the development of each child. The children will be engaged in a wealth of intriguing and creative activities that stimulate their development. Our program is small and we are able to give each child personal attention. Children will discover both the process and joy of learning new concepts and skills. Our program is designed to teach a greater sense of independence, responsibility, thinking, and problem solving, while developing an appreciation for books and music. We love speaking French, learning math, science, and reading!

Location

Etienne’s Family Wonderschool is located in a cozy, warm apartment in Park Slope and will soon be your child’s loving home away from home.

At Etienne’s, we believe in a simple learning environment where children will be truly engaged in activities throughout the day, not distracted or overly stimulated. With this in mind, we’ve designed our space with play and learning areas that will allow children to explore various developmentally-appropriate activities based on their interests. These areas include a reading area, a station for dramatic play, and our art table where we do crafts and sensory activities every day.

We are also lucky to also have nearby parks where the children will have some outdoor time everyday. We will get our wiggles out and be able to run, jump, and move!

About our program

We are bilingual at Etienne’s!

Preschool is a great time for language learning as it coincides with children’s natural ‘critical period’ for language development. Throughout our day, children will be spoken to in both English and French. The combination of both languages will encourage your child to better understand languages overall, increase their phonemic awareness when learning new words and phrases, and give them a more expansive vocabulary. All of these skills are also helpful when promoting independence and self-regulation skills.

We also think that it is important for our children to experience aspects of other cultures, and another language is no exception! Children who are exposed to other languages can have a richer understanding of the world around them and be more appreciative of different backgrounds.
