Our Teachers
Hello! My name is Cathy Martin and I am the founder of Little Gems. I am a Reno native, born and raised right here in the North Valleys. My experience with children has been from babysitting for family, friends and neighbors since I was old enough to do so. Children’s endless imaginations and effortless development has always inspired me to be a part of early childhood education. Being fortunate enough to open Little Gems will not only benefit the families in our community but also myself and my own children.
My mother, Debbie, will be a volunteer to help with daily activities, field trips, and times when I have a brief absence (medical appointments, child transportation, etc.). Debbie is a fun loving grandma who has over 30 years of experience with children, and is CPR and First Aid certified.
Philosophy
We want every child to leave Little Gems feeling able and confident in moving forward to kindergarten. Our program is a place where children are encouraged to learn and grow by using their imaginations and creativity. Children are excited to come to Little Gems every day, while their parents/guardians feel at ease dropping their child off, knowing that they are safe and learning. We balance fun and learning with our play-based program.
Location
Little Gems is located in the quiet hills of Red Rock, just north of Animal Ark. Being so close to Animal Ark lets us take frequent field trips there to learn about all of the animals.
We are in a new home on 10 acres, where we look forward to expanding our outdoor activity areas. Our large backyard was designed for children to learn and play, with their health and safety a main priority.
Children will join in a variety of learning activities in our bright classroom, where they can focus on tasks with minimal outside distractions.
We would love for you to schedule a tour and come see our lovely childcare program in person.
About our program
Little Gems’ class size is small so every child will get more personalized and attentive care. Our favorite things to do each day are arts and crafts, and to get out and learn about nature. We will also work with your child on basic concepts that will help get them ahead before entering kindergarten (counting, the alphabet, colors, seasons, time, things in nature, etc.) and social skills. Our meals will be fun and appealing to children, encouraging them to try a variety of different foods.
Our program will provide:
● A nutritious lunch and two snacks daily
● Regular field trips (Animal Ark, Discovery Museum, Splash Park, etc.)
● Holiday photos of your child
We also offer before/after school care for children of all ages.
