My name is Ms. Tomeka, and I am a family childcare provider. Caring for children has always been my passion, and I have been fortunate to have over 25 years of experience in this field. I hold a CDA in preschool and a B.S in Early Childhood Administration, which has equipped me with the necessary knowledge and skills to provide high-quality childcare. What sets me apart is my belief in the importance of tailoring my services to meet the unique needs of each child. I have experience working with children with medical diagnoses, such as administering epipens and nebulizers, as well as those with mental health challenges. I am well-versed in IEPs and 504s and work closely with parents to ensure their child’s care is individualized and of the highest quality. I am committed to being a lifelong learner, always seeking opportunities to enhance my teaching abilities and provide the best possible environment for children to thrive.
Philosophy
We believe in the power of play-based and Montessori learning philosophies. Our program is designed to nurture and support children’s strengths, while also providing focused assistance in areas that may need growth. We strongly believe that true learning occurs when one can teach someone else, which is why peer-to-peer learning and mixed age groups are integral to our approach.
In our program, learning tools and natural materials take center stage as we promote open-ended learning experiences. You will find leaves, pine cones, popsicle sticks, and various other natural materials being used to create student-guided activities. By incorporating these elements, we encourage children to explore and discover the world around them at their own pace.
We place a strong emphasis on individual growth and self-assessment, rather than comparing children to their peers. Each child is encouraged to set their own goals and measure their progress based on their personal achievements, fostering a sense of confidence and independence.
Our program is carefully designed to provide a rich learning environment that stimulates curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking. Through a variety of engaging activities, children are encouraged to explore their interests and passions. We believe that by providing a supportive and stimulating environment, children will develop a love for learning that will stay with them throughout their lives.
At our program, mixed age groups are an essential component of the learning experience. This fosters a sense of community and allows children to learn from one another. Older children have the opportunity to practice leadership skills and reinforce their own knowledge by teaching younger peers. Simultaneously, younger children benefit from the guidance and support of their older peers, creating a dynamic and inclusive learning environment.
Our approach to learning is centered around developing the whole child, focusing on their cognitive, social, emotional, and physical growth. We understand that each child is unique and learn at their own pace, and therefore, our program offers individualized attention and support to meet the needs of each child.
We believe that learning should be a joyful and fun experience, and we strive to create an environment where children feel excited and motivated to explore, create, and learn. Through our play-based and Montessori-inspired approach, we aim to instill a love for learning, foster independence, and nurture the unique strengths and abilities of each child in our care.

About our program
In our family childcare program, we prioritize closely observing children during their learning experiences. This fundamental practice allows our dedicated caregiver, Ms. Tomeka, to understand how each child learns best, which directly informs her teaching approach. By keenly observing whether a child excels in tactile learning with blocks or prefers independent learning, Ms. Tomeka ensures that she meets them where they are and teaches them accordingly. Her ultimate goal is to help each child become the best version of themselves, tailoring their education to their unique needs and abilities. Ms. Tomeka places great importance on phonics, providing various opportunities for children to explore letter sounds rather than relying on repetitive methods. Progress is assessed based on individual growth, not solely determined by age. To promote healthy development, children in our program will have minimal screen time, and their learning experiences will be intentionally designed to foster overall growth and development.
