Philosophy
Where Childhood Gets to Be Childhood
At Just Like Home Family Daycare, we believe childhood is meant to be wondered through, not hurried through.
We believe little hands should get messy, little feet should explore, and little minds should have plenty of room to wonder. A puddle can become an experiment, a cardboard box can become a castle, a handful of leaves can inspire an afternoon of discovery, and one tiny question can lead us somewhere we never planned to go.
Inspired by the Reggio Emilia and Montessori philosophies, we see every child as capable, curious, creative, and wonderfully individual. Children are not empty vessels waiting to be filled with information. They arrive each day already full of ideas, questions, theories, personalities, and possibilities. Our job is to notice them, listen to them, and give those ideas somewhere to grow.
We believe in the hundred languages of children. Children speak through paint and play, movement and music, building and pretending, digging and collecting, laughter and conversation. Sometimes learning looks like carefully completing a task. Other times, it looks like muddy boots, paint-covered fingers, a magnificent block tower, or a very serious investigation of a worm found outside.
Our environment is part of that learning. Inspired by Reggio Emilia’s idea of the environment as the third teacher, we thoughtfully create spaces that invite children to touch, explore, create, investigate, and linger over the things that capture their curiosity.
From Montessori, we embrace the beautiful confidence that grows when children are trusted to do things for themselves. Children are encouraged to choose, pour, carry, clean, prepare, organize, care for their surroundings, solve problems, and practice the everyday skills that quietly say, I am capable.
There is a rhythm to our days, but there is also room for wonder. We make space for stories and early academics, process art and sensory play, practical life and pretend play, quiet concentration and big-body movement, cozy moments inside and adventures outdoors.
We know there is no single path through childhood. Children grow in different ways, at different speeds, with different strengths and different needs. We honor those differences and strive to create an inclusive space where every child can belong, participate, and experience success.
And while we teach children, we believe they have quite a bit to teach us, too.
So here, we slow down enough to notice.
We follow the interesting questions. We celebrate the wonderfully messy ideas. We encourage independence while keeping a safe place to return to. We learn with our hands, our hearts, and our whole selves.
Because at Just Like Home, we aren’t trying to hurry children toward the next stage.
We’re giving them the space to be little while they still are.
Location
Just Like Home Family Daycare is nestled in a quiet residential neighborhood in Burton, offering children the comfort of a true home-away-from-home while remaining conveniently located for families throughout the Burton and greater Genesee County area. Our home-based setting gives children space to learn, create, explore, and enjoy plenty of outdoor play in a familiar neighborhood environment. We are conveniently located near local schools, parks, and major roads, making drop-off and pick-up easy for families commuting throughout the area. We love being able to offer the warmth of a small neighborhood program while still being close to the many resources and activities our community has to offer.
About our program
Welcome to Just Like Home Family Daycare! Just Like Home Family Daycare uses many tools from the Montessori Method developed by Italian Dr. Maria Montessori. The Montessori Method allows children to be observed and supported during the natural stages of child development, while promoting independence, problem solving skills, critical thinking skills, and even time-management skills. Children are also encouraged to explore their individual unique personalities through informal teaching methods, such as play and collaboration. As your Daycare Provider, I will ensure your child is provided high-quality care, as well as exposed to high-quality learning experiences during their time with me. I designed the Just Like Home environment to build a strong and balanced learning foundation for every child. Our goal is to provide a nurturing, fun and loving environment with a research-based curriculum that ultimately helps children become confident learners.
