Philosophy

Tonya’s Family Child Care believes that all children deserve to be treated equally and given the same opportunities as every child enrolled to grow and develop into healthy individuals. Therefore I created a loving, safe, healthy and multicultural environment for families. I believe that in order for children to have a healthy social emotional development they need to be shown love and encouraged to try new things. Children also need to have opportunities to play with children their age. Children learn thru play and play is important for physical growth and development. Show children your feelings so they won’t be afraid to express feelings to you. Also acknowledged their feelings when being shown. Daily routines help children as well. Organizing a material-rich environment, trusting relationships, showing warmth and affection consistently, respecting and caring about every child are key to developing healthy growth and learning.

Children see how you interacted with their moms and dads so in return they tend to have the same interaction with you. This is why it is important to establish a positive relationship with families. When you have a positive relationship it makes everyone happy and easy to get along with. To promote positive engagement parents are greeted with a smile, referred to by name. Parents are provided with various forms of communication. I always asked about what is going on outside of daycare. I listen attentively to what parents have to say regarding their children.

I welcome all children and families and to ensure that all children/families feel welcomed. I acknowledge all races and cultures. Families are encouraged to share their heritage, traditions and culture with the Daycare. If a different language is spoken at home every effort is made to communicate with the family in that language.

I believe it is important to individualize each and every child because every child grows up differently. This is why it’s important that every child be supported to their individual needs. Children are observed on a daily basis to see their likes, dislikes and what they are really interested in. Materials are made available to the liking of all children whatever their interests, backgrounds, cultures or home languages may be.
