Our Teachers

I am the Director of Open Minds Early Learning Center in Bowie, MD.
I have 16 years of experience in childcare, providing high-quality childcare. I am CPR and First Aid Certified. I am credentialed by the Maryland State Department of Education, Accredited through the National Association of Family Childcare, and at a Level 5 in Maryland Excels.

I am dedicated to seeing children learn, grow and develop.

Philosophy

Open Minds Early Learning Center, formerly known as Little Angels Learning Center (LAL) is a family-based childcare that offers a developmentally appropriate environment that strive to build social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth and one that challenges children to succeed, encourages them to explore and guides them to discover and use their imagination as they engage in self-selected activities. We also listen to the children to find out their interests and/or things they would like to do. This helps them grow and meet their own goals.

We believe that through play children of all ages inclusive of those with special healthcare needs and different abilities are able to grow and develop at their own pace with structured and appropriate guidelines.

We believe it is essential for children to see their own primary language and culture in their learning environment. Building connections between home and school for children from diverse families is important in the child’s learning process. In order to make the environment comfortable for the children, we share with families’ words for concepts that the child is currently exploring and ask for corresponding words in their home language. We incorporate children’s books and other learning materials that reflect the home culture and language to include dress-up in dramatic play, dolls, posters and videos. Children are encouraged to interact with their peers and adults in positive ways so they can safely explore without any discrimination of any kind.

My goal as a teacher is to provide a rich environment where children feel comfortable to explore and initiate learning on their own. However, some areas of teaching are teacher directed to include circle time and whole group. This creates a balance in the children’s day. As a teacher, I also believe that open communication with parents is essential. Parents and teachers share a common goal, providing the best for their children. Working together we can achieve this goal.

At Open Minds Early Learning Center, we encourage curiosity and excitement about learning. We use free play to let the children explore and express themselves using joyful approaches to stimulate growth and support development across all domains and subject areas. We, the teachers, play a crucial role in creating places and spaces where they can access essential tools and materials to help all children master the skills they will need for future success. It is our goal to ensure that all children are kindergarten-ready.
