Our Teachers
Hello! I am Shehla Afzal, the founder of Little Stars Home Childcare & Wonderschool. I have been working with children for nearly 20 years and was inspired to start my own in-home childcare program after becoming a mother. My husband, Arif, also helps out, making our program truly family-focused.
Philosophy
Welcome to Little Stars Home Childcare & Wonderschool, a play-based program in Centennial, Colorado. At Little Stars our mission is to be a place where children feel comfortable and happy and a place where parents feel great about leaving their child.
I am dedicated to creating a warm and nurturing atmosphere that allows children to develop at their own unique rate. Children need to feel safe and confident in order to learn and grow. At Little Star’s I work towards cultivating a positive, fun environment by treating everyone with respect and providing children with opportunities, keeping them safe and giving individual attention.
Location
Little Stars Home Childcare & Wonderschool is located in a welcoming, charming single family home in the Stone Tree neighborhood.
We’ve designed our care environment with play and learning areas that allow children to explore various developmentally-appropriate activities based on their interests. Some of our favorite areas include nature area (for discovering nature and science concepts), dramatic play area (for self-expression and empathy), and block area (for gross motor skills and problem solving).
Children will have some outdoor time everyday at mix of both my private yard and local parks and playgrounds. Children need space to run, jump, and move!
At Little Stars Home Childcare & Wonderschool, I want to provide an enriching environment where children feel free to explore and play.
About our program
Little Stars encourages developmental growth in the areas of intellectual, social, physical, and emotional skills, through a wide assortment of group activities, individual play, and quiet periods. We have a great selection of toys and learning materials that let children develop confidence in their abilities explore, learn, make things, and have plain old fun! I believe that an effective daycare works as a partnership between parents and the childcare provider. Parents are encouraged to make suggestions and comments. Parent visits are welcome at any time. I look forward to working together to provide your child with the best care possible at H as Daycare.
I encourage positive behavior by learning to take turns and saying please and thank you along with social interaction which includes utilizing a variety of activities such as free play, reading, music, dancing and pretend play and crafts. These activities also help children in gaining emotional competence.
