Our Teachers

Hello! We are Monica and Ruth, the founders of Ruiz & Rivera Family Child Care Wonderschool. We were inspired to start our own program because we saw a need for high-quality care in our community.

We each have over 15 years of experience working with young children. Prior to opening our child care program, I (Monica) used to work at Los Angeles County Unified School District (LAUSD) as an assistant teacher for grades K-6. Shortly after, I started working for child care centers full-time in Whittier and Koreatown. I obtained my Site Supervisor certification and Ruth has her Director Teacher certification. We believe in the importance of early childhood education and in continuing to learn best practices in the field of child development.

Philosophy

At Ruiz & Rivera Family Child Care Wonderschool, our philosophy is to provide quality care by creating a safe, clean, loving environment in order to help your child reach their highest potential. We believe children should grow and learn at their own pace and therefore we encourage both learning through play and structured learning activities including reading, arts and crafts and musical activities. This will allow your child to develop emotionally, physically, intellectually, and socially.

We adjust our creative curriculum according to the age of each child in our program. Children do a wide variety of activities with us, including basic baking, arts & crafts projects and yoga. Yoga is one of our favorite hobbies and we love being able to share our passion for it with kids of all ages for a healthy mind, body and spirit.

In addition to our regular programming, we also support with pick-up from local schools and tutoring with homework. We offer three nutritious meals per day (breakfast, lunch, and a snack) and celebrate birthdays with special treats. We also enjoy celebrating holidays and graduations together. At Ruiz & Rivera Family Child Care Wonderschool, we work closely with families to build a strong educational foundation for all children.

Location

Ruiz & Rivera Family Child Care Wonderschool is located in a welcoming, beautiful single family home in the South Gate neighborhood.

We’ve designed our care environment with play and learning areas that allow children to explore various developmentally-appropriate activities based on their interests. Some of our favorite areas include a block area (for gross motor skills and problem solving), dramatic play area (for self-expression and empathy), and art area (for expressing emotions and ideas).

Children will have some outdoor time everyday in my private yard. Children need space to run, jump, and move!

At Ruiz & Rivera Family Child Care Wonderschool, I want to provide a loving home away from home.
