My name is Mayza Wilson, I hold a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Hospitality from the University of UNIP in 2003 (Brazil). I am currently taking early childhood education at the program called Lifeways (++www.lifewaysnorthamerica.org),++expecting to graduate in June 2020. In recent years I have taken several courses in Early Childhood Education at the Marin Childcare Council. I speak fluently Portuguese, English and Spanish. I have been working with infants, toddlers, and children of different ages for 13 years, and I love what I do. I am also a professional face painter and balloon sculptures artist. Each child I have cared for has enriched me as an individual. I live in San Rafael, California, with my husband , Aaron, our 4- year old girl . I love helping children to learn and grow. I wholeheartedly support each child to be spontaneous and creative.

Mayza is a loving, responsible, and joyful person who we trusted and valued as the caretaker for our daughter from 5 months old until she began kindergarten. Mayza has a wonderful way of being able to balance the needs of multiple young children in a caring and patient way. She is always interested in learning more about child development, how to nurture young children, and help them play and learn. (For those of you who care about these things, you will clearly see the influences of Reggio Emilio and Waldorf in the built environment that she and Aaron have thoughtfully designed and created for children to explore in their home daycare.) If you are looking for a place where your child or children will feel safe, loved, and thrive, I highly recommend Mayza’s Granny Teresa Nursery School.

Mayza is WONDERFUL with children. It’s clear from the care and love she provides to children that this is her true calling in life. My daughter Valentina is always so excited to play with Mayza and I‘m always grateful that I know that she‘ll be happy and safe while I’m away.”

Philosophy
At Granny Teresa’s Wonderschool, we are a Waldorf inspired program. We believe that experiential learning leads to conceptual understanding. We are Waldorf-inspired but a Waldorf classroom will only include furniture and materials made from natural sources. The focus in the preschool classroom is pre-academic with a huge emphasis on the arts, gardening, cooking, woodworking, and the outside world, a tenet of play-based learning, that accompanies the Waldorf ideal of allowing children to be self-directed in their choice of activities. Our goal is to provide an environment where each child feels nurtured, loved and feels empowered to learn and grow!
Location
Granny Teresa Childcare Wonderschool is located in a bright, warm single family home in the San Rafael neighborhood.
We’ve designed our care environment with play and learning areas that allow children to explore various developmentally-appropriate activities based on their interests. Some of our favorite areas include reading / cozy area (for literacy, relaxation, and respite), dramatic play area (for self-expression and empathy), and nature area (for discovering nature and science concepts).
Children will have some outdoor time everyday in my private yard or outdoor space. Children need space to run, jump, and move!
At Granny Teresa Childcare Wonderschool, I want to provide a loving home away from home.
About our program
In our program, we seek to foster learning through exposing the children to many types of projects and experiences. We balance reading and writing with arts, crafts and outdoor play. We have a full outdoor classroom with a sandbox, outdoor kitchen and garden.
We play music and dance everyday, the children are encouraged to try different instruments and create their own music and types of dances. We make sure each child is well nourished with healthy, organic, freshly cooked meals. Everyday we work to make sure we provide the best environment for our children to learn and develop to the best of their potential.
