Candida Huerta - Founder & Director

Hola! I am Candida Huerta, the founder of El Camino. I was inspired to start my own program because when my own children were young, I started inviting other children to our home to play. The kids loved it and had tons of fun. I then realized there was a need in my community for high-quality care.

I have 20 years of experience working with young children in a daycare setting and am excited to be opening my own program. My favorite part of working with children is engaging with the whole family and being able to help out the parents in my community.

We have two experienced assistants fluent in both English and Spanish, and my adult daughter helps out as well.

Candida is a lifesaver and my daughter loves going to her. Every morning she wants to go to school and share her loves with her teacher and classmates.

Testimonials

This is so amazing my daughter is 13 years old now, and is a product of teacher Candida’s amazing ability to teach and mentor young kids. I know El Camino Wonderschool will be a great place for kids to learn and grow! - Jesse A.

Philosophy

At El Camino, children will learn by following their own unique style of discovery. It is our goal to provide an environment that makes children feel welcomed and at home. In our program, children will feel supported as they engage with new ideas and learnings.

We are excited to offer a bilingual Spanish - English program. Activities throughout the day will be conducted in both the Spanish and the English language. Young children are uniquely predisposed to learning a second language, and doing so has many benefits both developmentally, academically, and professionally.

Location

El Camino is located in a welcoming and inviting home in the Shoreview neighborhood.

We’ve designed our care environment with play and learning areas that allow children to explore various developmentally-appropriate activities based on their interests. Children will spend about half of their time outdoors in our private yard or another outdoor space. We have lots of space to run and play in our yard, as well as a covered area for, especially hot days.

At El Camino, we want to provide an enriching environment where children feel free to explore and play.

About our program

El Camino is a Spanish -English bilingual child care program. Research shows that there are many benefits of learning a second language for children, especially in early education.

Cognitive benefits of bilingual and language immersion early care

  • Children who attend bilingual preschool have a better ability to monitor their immediate environment compared to monolinguals. They exhibit more mental flexibility and a stronger ability to switch between tasks (also known as ‘working memory’)
  • Children who attend bilingual preschool show increased self-regulation skills
  • Early and consistent bilingualism has been shown to delay the onset of dementia and Alzheimer’s

You can learn more about the benefits of language immersion for young learners on the Wonderschool blog.
