Our Teachers

Hello! I am Armineh Sepanian, the director of Armineh’s Wonderschool. I moved to the US from Iran in 2008. When I was in my home country started and ran a summer school to provide education and field trips to the children of families in need. When I came to the US, I started a Sunday school in my home and ran camps for children in my community.

I started taking Early Childhood Education courses in 2009 and graduated in 2012 with an Associate’s Degree in Child Development. While I was taking courses, I worked at the Glendale College Child Development Center. In 2013, I started working as a preschool teacher.

I was inspired to start my own program because of my love for working with children in mixed age groups, and because I wanted to provide a multilingual, multicultural environment that was focused on creative learning. I am happy to share that parents of my previous students say that my patience and gentle guidance was critical to their child’s development, and that children I have taught 15 years ago are still in touch with me.Since 2020 I am running my own childcare I’m so proud of our families who always encourage and appreciate of my philosophy and mission.

Philosophy

My goal is to provide our students with opportunities for creative learning, where they will learn to find solutions and develop life skills through projects and hands-on experiences. Using the whole-child approach, we guide our children to grow in the five domains of development: cognitive, physical, social, emotional, and fine motor skills.

We use questions and group discussion to encourage critical thinking in our students, as we believe that the answers are not as important as helping our students learn to ask questions and think about the world around them. We believe that learning happens through playing and doing, and we provide our children with open-ended toys and play invitations to stimulate their imagination and creativity.

Multiculturalism is very important to us - we appreciate and include families of all backgrounds, and celebrate learning different languages and cultures. I speak English, Armenian, and Farsi, and teach Armenian and Farsi to our students through music, movement, and stories.

Location

Our program is located in a welcoming and spacious single family home in Pacoima. We are a three minute drive from Highway 5 North and Highway 5 South, and are close to Van Nuys Boulevard. We are located near Haddon Avenue STEAM Academy and Pacoima Middle School.

Our students will enjoy their daily outdoor time in our large backyard, where we do science activities, engage with the nature around us, and have picnics together. Using sand and water tables, balls, and hula hoops, children will have plenty of opportunities to move and play outside.

About our program

Our program gives affection and attention to each child to help them develop at their own pace. We communicate updates and milestones of each child’s development with the parents of our students, and have parent-teacher conferences where I share materials and notes of a child’s progress. We ensure that each child is given healthy food that they are excited to eat, and we provide protein, nutritious grains, and vegetables through Mediterranean-style food.
