Testimonials
“This is an amazing place for your little one to attend. I am a professional in the ECE field and have visited Little Urban Farmers Learning and was highly impressed with the caliber of teaching staff and high quality practices that take place here. The owner of the program is dedicated to providing the highest quality of care and learning for the children that attend her program. The program is rich in experiences and materials to support children’s natural curiosity and learning.
All staff is highly qualified and demonstrates a genuine love for the field of Early Childhood. If you want your child to experience fun, creative, and hands on learning then this is the place for you and your child! Every chance I get I recommend Little Urban Farmers Learning Center!” - Laura E.
“After my daughter started this program, she was so excited to tell me all about her day and about WHAT SHE LEARNED. The school has a hands-on, child-guided learning philosophy. So for example, if they are doing a unit on the life cycle, they take it all the way - not just reading about it, but bringing it into the classroom. So the teachers brought in caterpillars and explained about cocoons and how caterpillars transformed into butterflies. The director and owner, Miss Shaunte, built a chicken coop in the backyard and the kids got to watch chicks hatch out of eggs!
The kids are allowed and encouraged to get dirty, to learn by playing and by experiencing nature. The backyard of the home has been transformed into an area with a water feature, mud pit, a garden, and an area for kids to ride trikes, so the outdoor space is a big part of the day. Little kids need physical activity as well as a strong educational curriculum, and they definitely get both here. The staff is incredibly caring and makes you feel part of a big family. The kids really care for each other and are respectful to one another.
My daughter is now almost 9, in third grade and at the top of her class. :) This high-quality preschool program helped encourage her to love school, and she was definitely ready for kindergarten when she graduated from “Miss Shaunte’s!” - Lisa M.
Philosophy
“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” - Dr. Seuss
Our programming and Reggio Emilia-inspired environment allows for young people to cultivate relationships where they learn from one another and expose each other to experiences and perspectives beyond their own. This organic process helps our students develop a deep appreciation of humankind - something we feel is desperately necessary in the world outside our classroom today.
Since my introduction to the industry over 20 years ago, my family child care business has remained a staple in the community.
Little Urban Farmers is a learning space between Culver City and South Los Angeles. We are invested in cultivating a safe, enriching space for young people and creating an opportunity for them to develop into strong, productive, good citizens. We have built our program to stimulate imaginations, promote creation and creativity, and allow room to make mistakes.
We respect and value the differences in each child’s interests, developmental needs, learning style(s), and personality. We celebrate and value diversity in our students; our families, cultural experiences, racial and ethnic backgrounds make our learning experiences stronger.

Location
Little Urban Farmers Learning Space has been in operation for over 20 years in the beautiful family-friendly area on the border of Baldwin Hills and Culver City. About our program
Providing the highest quality of early child care and education are responsibilities we take seriously. It is our goal to foster a loving and caring atmosphere that emphasizes the development of the whole child: mind, body, and spirit.
To nurture the “whole child,” we employ passionate teachers who are dedicated to providing high quality learning opportunities through play and scholastic activities. Our program uses evidence-based curricula and classroom management strategies to ensure your child is receiving the best possible educational experience.
Given the demographic make-up of our community, a unique aspect of our program is that children participate in dual-language learning to encourage early language development in both Spanish and English. Children also participate in a multitude of cultural experiences, such as learning how to play instruments and tasting different foods from around the world. We also take field trips to local attractions to instill tolerance and cultural awareness in their young and developing minds.
Field trips and program activities
Field trips and nature walks are considered an important part of the educational program and are taken periodically through our community. The staff provides adult supervision for these excursions. Children are required to wear the child care logo t-shirts when provided. Parents are responsible for leaving their child’s car seat for scheduled trips.
All children participate in any scheduled offsite field trip. If parents/legal guardians prefer that your child not attend the activity, you must find alternative child care services for the day.
For the safety of all children, you may be asked/required to accompany your child on field trips in order for your child to attend. If this is not possible, you will be responsible for making other child care arrangements for that day.
Our approach to problem solving
We believe that having open communication is the foundation of building healthy relationships between staff and parents. In the event of differences, conflicts, or concerns between a parent and a teacher, we encourage the parent to voice their concerns. The program director will intervene to find an agreeable solution for both parties.
Our approach to discipline
Spanking, hitting, slapping, shaking and so forth are not permitted in licensed centers or homes. The provider does not allow any form of corporal punishment. Staff guide children’s behavior by setting reasonable limits, being consistent, having a regular routine, and reinforcing behaviors to develop children’s self-esteem. We provide warm and loving care with the tool of redirecting any undesired behavior.
Teachers encourage the use of words among the children to solve their own conflicts and develop a sense of self-control. Some other techniques we may use are: demonstrating appropriate behavior; giving praise and positive reinforcement for desirable behaviors; logical consequences; problem solving and conflict resolution through words; and providing a quiet, relaxed activity to help the child calm down and regroup. We strongly encourage parents to help develop consistency for the child by using these techniques in your home as well.
