Achievements
Philosophy
At Contreras Family Child Care we support the physical, social-emotional, and cognitive development of the children enrolled in our program.
We believe:
- Children learn best by active involvement with materials, peers, and adults
- Children construct their own understanding of the world around them
- Play is the work of children
Our Mission is to provide high quality child care both inside and outside of our facility so that we fit all the needs of the children and families we serve.
Our Philosophy Our program is designed to meet the developmental needs of your children. It provides experiences that enrich and enhance each child’s cognitive , language, social, emotional, and physical development . Within the program’s daily schedule, each child has opportunities to create, explore the environment, learn problem solving and personal interaction skills, and learn concepts through first-hand experiences. Children develop a positive self-concept through a balance of self- and teacher-facilitated activities. Opportunities for solitary play a well as group activities are provided. Staff serve as positive role models and provide care that is supportive, nurturing , warm and responsive to each child’s individual needs. The adult’s responsibility in a developmental program is to assist the child in growing to his or her fullest potential by recognizing each stage of development and fashioning a curriculum that will nurture and facilitate growth during that stage. We respect parents as the primary and most important provider of care and nurturing, and we believe parents and teachers are partners in children’s care and education.
Location
Elsa’s Wonderschool is located in a bright, charming single family home in the Los Angeles neighborhood. We are next to the fire station, on the same street as an Elementary school, and near the police station.
We are conveniently located near the 110 and 10 Freeways.
The home is gated, private, and secure. We have cameras to monitor the property and ensure your child’s safety as well as a police permit alarm.
About our program
At Contreras Family Child Care our goal is to help all children to reach their full potential in a loving and safe environment. This is a bilingual program, with children being exposed to both English and Spanish throughout the day.
We are committed to implementing Developmentally Appropriate Practices in our curriculum, and we focus on all aspects of a child’s development in an age-appropriate way. You can expect to see play and activities that support physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of your child. We will spend time both indoors and outdoors on a daily basis. We make a point to venture beyond the walls of our classroom from time to time for visits to the library, zoo, aquarium, museum, and neighborhood walks.
Parent involvement is an important part of our program. You can expect regular information on your child’s progress, including a developmental report every six months. We use tools like the ASQ and the DRDP to track child development and support learning. We love to help parents get involved in their child’s learning along the way!
As part of our commitment to creating a high quality program, we participate in the Quality Start rating program in LA. This program is entirely voluntary and involves ongoing assessment and rating to advance the quality of our program.
