Vijay - Director

Hi, I’m Vijay and I’ve been running my own child care program for 29 years. I love working with children and consider it my life’s work. I have four boys of my own and am also a proud grandmother! In my spare time, I love to cook. I speak fluent Hindi.

We also have two assistant teachers: Lilia has worked with us for 6 years and had 2 years of experience working with young children prior to that. Rorrie, our other Assistant Teacher, has been with us for 13 years. Both Lilia and Rorrie speak Spanish in addition to English.

We started our 1.5 year old at Chandra Family Wonderschool as Covid restrictions started to lift. Previously, our daughter had only ever been watched by us or a nanny in our home. The transition to being outside of our house and separated from her parents was a VERY hard transition for her as she was born just before Covid hit and was not used to being apart from us. VJ and her amazing assistant Lilly were VERY patient with our daughter, and loving, and constantly reassured me that she would settle in. Eventually she did settle in, and would happily walk into the play room and sit down and wait for VJ to bring her breakfast. VJ serves the children healthy fruit and snacks, it was so nice not to have to pack a lunch/snacks. Another feat- is that in a matter of days VJ transitioned our sleep-sensitive toddler from sleeping alone in a crib with white noise to sleeping on a sleepmat in a room with her peers. VJ is very matter of fact about children/childcare- she is practical and straightforward. She has been doing this a long time and you can tell she has lots of experience with Children. We are so grateful for the care she and Lilly gave our daughter! - REBECCA

“We feel very fortunate to have found Vijay Chandra’s daycare about 2 years ago. As concerned new parents, we visited numerous daycares on the Westside and -as many others- felt overwhelmed by the huge demand and waitlists. We did our homework and read as many online reviews as we could find. We also read the County’s record on each facility. The Chandra Family’s daycare had an impeccable record. When meeting the owner and team we felt at ease. They have a very practical yet, caring approach to the kids’ daily life. We trusted Vijay and her team with our kid from age 18 months to 3  1/2 years. Our child was not only safe but was very happy to make new friends and felt very comfortable in their care, a second home. I now look back and I feel so thankful, as I don’t know how else we both could have managed to continue work full-time and worry-free without their help. Vijay’s practical style and vast experience with children brought us a lot of re-assurance throughout many developmental stages. She and her team are always helpful and accommodating -within operating hours- to the parent/child’s needs for e.g. if we had to coordinate early pickups due to an appointment, etc. Also, the group of children under their care is a very diverse group and this is something we really wanted for our child.

The facility, as stated, is a family-run daycare. The home is clean, and the dedicated space is safe and adapted to care for small children. If I were to think of areas were to improve, I would suggest perhaps incorporating additional activities during the fall/winter season - the kids do yoga on a regular basis -, would be a great addition.” - Vanessa M.

Philosophy

Trust, love, and care play central roles at Chandra’s Family Wonderschool, where we treat each child as our own.

Location

Chandra’s Family Wonderschool is located in a beautiful home on a quiet block in Westchester. The program is close to LAX airport, the 405, and the 105 Freeway. Our sunny main play room opens to our private backyard, where we spend time outdoors every day. We have lots of space out there for the kids to run around, as well as plants to care for, play structures, and tricycles.

Chandra Family Wonderschool is a true family child care: we treat the children like they are our own and consider parents part of our family too. We see all children regardless of what they look like or where they come from equally, as a united nation.

If you would like to enroll, please submit an application at https://www.wonderschool.com/application/3903 – Please note that we require tours for all prospective families. Please do not submit an application if you have not visited the program.

4. Enroll

After reviewing your application, we’ll send an enrollment invitation. Upon accepting your invitation you’ll pay your enrollment fee, fill out enrollment documents and review our Parent Handbook.
