Our Teachers

Hello! I am Jerrilyn, the founder of Baldwin Hills Wonderschool. I was inspired to start my own program because I saw a need for high-quality care in my community. I have an extensive background in education and over 20 years of experience working with young children.

I received my Bachelor’s degree in early Childhood Education, Master’s of Science degree in Education/Specialization in Curriculum and Instruction, and an advanced Master’s degree as an Educational Specialist (Ed. S) in Special Education.

My professional career began as a teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District (Child Development Division). I have been pursuing my interest in the field of early childhood education, special education, and social services for more than 20 years.

By working as a behavior therapist and then as a behavior therapist supervisor, I gained training and hands-on experience in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). I have supported many of my clients within their home, school, and natural environment using evidence-based methods such as Cognitive Behavior Intervention (CBI), Picture Exchange Communication Systems (PECS), and Social Skills Training (SST).

In addition, I have helped parents navigate through clinical Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and early intervention programs, regional centers, psychiatric therapy centers, hospital-based community centers, and various agencies that specialize in working with children who have been diagnosed with autism and/or developmental delays.

I have been married 15 years to my loving husband and together we have a beautiful 12 year old daughter, who is our little helper!

Philosophy

The philosophy of our childcare facility is centered on the individual child and their interests. Our goal is to provide an environment where children can grow, learn, and thrive by feeling safe, loved, and nurtured. Children will experience academic and play-based programs that cater to their specific interests and areas of development, while also feeling genuinely cared for, safe, and cherished in our welcoming and home-like setting.

Location

Baldwin Hills Wonderschool is located in a bright, inviting single family home in the Baldwin Hills neighborhood.

We’ve designed our care environment with play and learning areas that allow children to explore various developmentally-appropriate activities based on their interests. Some of our favorite areas include block area (for fine motor skills and problem solving), dramatic play area (for self-expression and empathy), and reading / cozy area (for literacy, relaxation, and respite).

Children will have outdoor time everyday in our private yard. Children need space to run, jump, and move!

At Baldwin Hills Wonderschool, we want to provide an enriching environment where children feel free to explore and play.
