Our Teachers

I have my Master’s in Education and am a licensed Early Childhood and Elementary teacher in VT. I have been in the early education field for over 16 years, teaching in center based and school based programs before opening my program… Being in a home based program is by far my favorite setting!

I love this job and am passionate about early childhood education! I love seeing how a multi-age group grows and learns together. I love that I get to provide a relaxed home setting for children, work closely with families and watch as children grow and learn at this important time of life! If you ever have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Testimonials

My review is below (and 5 stars for everything):

Joslyn is an amazing daycare provider. I cannot say enough good things about her and her program. She cared for and loved my children from infancy to preK age. Honestly, we would love to keep our kids with her forever! We commuted over a 1/2 hour each way to bring our kids there because her service was so phenomenal. Her environment is enriching, with songs, books, cooking, learning, and outdoor adventures. She has a great schedule that helps the kids have freedom but also feel secure and confident in their setting. She helps kids develop and knows the milestones like the back of her hand; she assesses kids throughout the year and plans activities to meet everyone’s needs and help them reach their next goals. She does an amazing job managing a multi-age group, which was one of the highlights of my kids’ experience. The kids form a community and love for each other; olders take care of youngers and they learn from each other. I also always appreciated Joslyn’s knowledge and care with parents. Being a parent with kids at home herself, she knows firsthand all the ins and outs of life with littles. When the kids were having a bad day or struggling with something, she always made us feel that everything was okay, that kids will be kids, and she always had resources available if we needed them. She and her program are amazing!

Philosophy

Owl’s Nest is a family preschool and childcare program that values and nurtures the whole child. I have been working with young children and their families in classrooms for over 10 years. I opened my home daycare as a way to allow both my own and other young children a chance to grow and learn in a loving home setting. We are a homeschooling family as well, so there is always something exciting going on!

Each child is unique, and I try to plan our space, activities and other opportunities around children’s interests and needs. Indoors I have space for children to engage in dramatic play, build with blocks and explore a number of toys and manipulatives and, of course, lots of books. We read a lot! For older children (and closely supervised smaller children) I have also set aside a safe space for smaller toys, a sand/water/sensory table, Montessori inspired early learning activities, puzzles and arts and crafts materials. Children have plenty of opportunities for creative play throughout the day. I also provide a special project, activity or circle time and story time each day for children who are ready. We bake rolls or muffins for snack together every few weeks.

We play outside every day, weather permitting. We have a large fenced yard with a small garden for the children, a climber, small playhouses, kitchen and sandbox as well as other toys. During the winter we have snow! There is a small woods behind our house that is perfect for exploring and generally tromping around in. We have a very sweet small family dog. We also have a rabbit inside and numerous chickens outside, all of which mostly stay in their own space though children love to visit them with me and feed them treats.

I provide a healthy, well balanced mostly vegetarian and organic menu for children as well. Families are welcome to send food in if they wish, though I ask you to let me know first. I do participate in the CACFP (food program).
