Philosophy

As an early childhood educator my value and beliefs around teaching and learning are as follows: I believe I am able to shape the children in my care with good morals and values, to respect others and culture differences, to treat other fairly, to advocate for others and continue to be lifelong learners. I believe as the educator I must set the example to follow. My goal is to develop a partnership between between me and the children’s families. To do this I must keep an open mind, take an objective stance, and be flexible in my views, expectations, strategies and procedures in resolving issues.

I believe young children learn through play that is created in environments that are safe and clean. That focuses on the means to teach and foster development, provide a play experiences and materials through which young children can try new things, experiment, ask questions, talk, read, sing dance, get messy at times, explore and listen. I believe children should be allowed time to their play and be explorers and creators. When conflict arises I see this as an opportunity to teach children skills on communicating, resolving conflict, and providing word to emotions. Mostly importantly, I value play!

I believe as an early childhood educator it is my responsibility to provide opportunities for small group discussions and cooperative learning. It is my role to adopt new practices that acknowledge both the art and science of learning. To help children create their own learning plans and then decide how I can implement this activity for each individual child. My role is to involve parents in the ay to day events that happen in their children lives. It is my responsibility to give the children in my care the opportunity to love to learn.
