Our Teachers

My name is Shannon, I am the teacher and owner of Wonder Garden Neighborhood Preschool. I have been teaching children for almost 20 years.  I have a degree in Early Childhood Education from Lane Community College. After a few years of teaching in the community, I taught for 13 years at LCC’s lab preschool, Lane Child & Family Center, where I supported college learners, preschoolers, and their families. Before starting Wonder Garden Neighborhood Preschool, I spent 3 years helping to start a local nature preschool.

I am passionate about sharing nature with children, sharing their joy as they learn something new, and collaborating with families.  Families know their children best and when teachers and families work together, children blossom!  I am dedicated to providing a safe and engaging environment where children will learn and thrive.

When not teaching, I enjoy spending time outside, camping, riding bikes, and cooking.  One of my favorite things is working in the garden, you may see me when you drive by!

Philosophy

We at Wonder Garden Neighborhood Preschool put children first, with a play-based learning model that encourages creativity, hands-on exploration, and discovery. We strongly believe that children are capable, driven learners.

We draw inspiration from three philosophies, Reggio, Montessori, and Waldorf.  These philosophies guide our approach to teaching and learning.

Our curriculum is designed around the unique interests and abilities of each child, with the aim of building focus, critical thinking, problem-solving, and social skills.

We embrace all forms of messy play, as these experiences deepen children’s understanding of the materials used, while also strengthening skills in all areas of development.

Join us and experience a nurturing, safe learning environment centered on the wonder of learning and connection.

Location

Wonder Garden is located in Eugene, Oregon in the Sheldon region. We have a beautiful, sweet fenced play yard, and we are within walking distance of two neighborhood parks and a lovely outdoor space.

About our program

Wonder Garden Neighborhood Preschool is a unique program that offers neighborhood-based learning experiences for children ages 3-5.

Our preschool program is designed to encourage learning through exploration and play. With our focus on community, children build strong relationships with their peers and teachers while developing valuable social skills.

We value our connection to nature and nurture it by exploring our garden, and surrounding neighborhoods, and using many natural materials in our work.

Our class size is kept small, allowing us to provide each child with the attention they deserve.
