Our Teachers

Xiomara Hernandez is the founder and director of Smart Baby Second Home Daycare. When she was pregnant with her son 11 years ago, she tried to find the best child care program that would fit her and her family’s needs. As she searched, she realized that she wanted to actually create her own program and create the kind of loving and caring environment she was looking for. To her, the money in this job is secondary. She loves being able to give back to families in her community by caring for their children and helping them grow!

Blasina and Romelinda are the two assistants who work in Smart Baby Second Home with Xiomara. They have been working in the program for over 7 years! Consistency for our families and children is so important, and we love having them here in our daycare family.

Xiomara has two daughters of her own - one who is a dentist and one who is a doctor! Her son is 11 years old.

Philosophy

Smart Baby Second Home is a high quality, loving child care program that has been serving its community for 12 years. We know that choosing a daycare is one of the most significant decisions you will make for you and your family. Our goal is to create a learning environment that cares for your child and helps them grow.

Our director, Xiomara, was searching for the kind of child care that would stand out and make her feel at home when she was looking for a daycare program for her son. With this vision in mind, she decided to create that exact kind of program she wished to have for her own family and is proud to offer it now to local families who are looking for the same love and care for their children.

Location

Smart Baby Second Home is located in a warm and inviting apartment in Washington Heights. We are a 5 minute walk from the 1 train and a 10 minute walk from the A/C train!

(Our apartment’s entryway is under construction, so please excuse the building’s appearance!)

It was very important to me to create a home away from home for children when they are in my care. Everyday, the children use their imaginations in dress-up and pretend play, create art, and go outside to walk around the neighborhood (with our giant stroller!) or go to the park.

About our program

Additional Hours/Weekend Care

Love and giving back to the community is the driving force for Smart Baby Second Home! It is so important to us that we support our families and their children if this is what is needed, so please let us know when visiting our program if you would like these options.

Healthy and Organic Meals

We serve 3 meals and 2 snacks throughout care hours to all our children. For every meal we serve, we choose healthy options. We know that some children may be eating all their daily meals while in our care, so we ensure they have the best nutrition possible.

Support with Supplies

If a family needs help supplying diapers, wipes, or other materials for their child, we offer to provide our own supply in the daycare. Please let us know if there are any other resources we can help with!

Daily Reports

We know how important it is to know how your child is growing and developing, so we make sure to provide reports informing parents of their child’s progress. This includes feeding times, napping and bathroom habits, and other kinds of necessary information (mood, behavior, etc.).
