Our Teachers

Hello! My name is Nurys, and I am the founding director of One Step Up Wonderschool. I have always loved working with kids, and believe that this is my passion! As a former manager with the postal service, I learned how to stay organized, remain reliable, and support people. As a mother (and first time grandma!) I watched my children grow through all of the key stages of development. I have always dreamed of having my own daycare, and am so excited to make that a reality here in our space. I got my CDA in January 2020, and have taken make Early Childhood Education courses at the local college.

Philosophy

At One Step Up Wonderschool, we believe children are best able to grow and learn in an environment where they feel loved! We want infants and kids to be able to enjoy themselves, and have structured an environment where they are comfortable and nurtured. Kids should like where they go for care each day, and that comes from how they interact with us, their friends, and the space itself!

Location

Our program is located in a secured apartment building in the Inwood neighborhood of Manhattan. We are accessible by the A line and are close to both the Dyckman St and 207th St stops. We spend time in the many parks near us whenever the weather allows!

About our program

I am inspired by the principles behind Montessori programs. I love the idea of kids being independent owners of the world around them. They can develop a sense of themselves and get to do what feels right for them.

We encourage imaginative play. Whether in the dramatic play area or looking through a book in the cozy corner, we have developmentally appropriate materials that let kids learn and create as they play.

This program is fully bilingual. Children will interact with each other and our staff in both English and Spanish. They will grow their vocabulary in each language no matter what language is spoken at home.

You will receive a daily report about your child’s day. It is important to know what happens with your child when they’re with us. We will share with you at the end of the day what your child did and other important information.
