Our Teachers

Hello! I am Welkenia Batista, the founder of Little Hands Daycare Wonderschool. I used to work with the Department of Education, but when Alfonso and I had our first daughter, we realized that there weren’t enough quality options for childcare. As a result, we opened Little Hands together! I was inspired to start my own program because I have loved working with children since I was young. I have 15 years of experience working with young children, and I received my CDA in 2013.

Philosophy

At Little Hands Daycare Wonderschool, we believe that children grow, learn, and thrive by feeling safe, loved, and nurtured. It is our goal to provide an environment that makes children feel welcomed and at home. In our program, children will feel empowered to follow their own interests in a safe space.

Location

Little Hands Daycare Wonderschool is located in a welcoming, inviting apartment in the Washington Heights neighborhood.

We are located a few short blocks from the 168 St stop on the A and C lines. We are also conveniently near the New York / Presbyterian Hospital campus.

Children will have some outdoor time everyday at a local park or playground. Connecting with nature lets children gain deeper knowledge of themselves and the world.

About our program

We build our weekly lesson plans around a theme! Our philosophy is rooted in the Creative Curriculum, so children receive a lot of opportunities to develop their interests and make choices. Our weekly themes keep children engaged as they develop strong concepts and scaffolding for different ideas and build vocabulary around an interesting topic.

We make sure that this is a welcoming environment. From our family-style meals to the children’s daily interactions, our environment is comfortable and provides students with a space where they can explore.

Stay connected with us! We know that parents are busy! We have a group email or text where we share what happens during the day and will send pictures or post them to one of our social media pages that you can follow. We like to listen to and are open with our parents - we support them with whatever they need.
