Our Teachers

Hello! I am Arlene Rivera, the founder of Little Angels Wonderschool. I was inspired to start my own program because I saw that children were being labeled as having behavior issues at a young age and I wanted to learn how I could learn the appropriate strategies to support children with different needs. I went on to study business administration, and then went to graduate school for bilingual education in the context of Special Education. I have been running my program for over 15+ years, and I have an incredible and dedicated team of folks.

Philosophy

At Little Angels I, we follow a play-based philosophy– and we’re also Spanish bilingual program.

Our environment: Our program is specifically designed to be developmentally-appropriate for infants and toddlers. Our infant room, for example, is a safe and nurturing environment for babies - especially because their routine varies from children who are slightly older. Our main playroom has infant toys and learning centers designed to be engaging for children 0-5. In any given day, your child might fingerpaint during art time and then move to the block area– and this is where they get to develop their fine and gross motor skills. We believe that our environment allows children to construct creations (art, blocks, dramatic play) that help them build feelings of success and self-esteem.

Our language: We believe in the power of a bilingual education. In fact, part of the reason why I opened this program is because I studied bilingual education in graduate school. Our bilingual program offers children the chance to grow comfortable and confident in two languages regardless of what they speak at home.

Location

Little Angels Wonderschool is located in a welcoming, cozy townhouse in the Bushwick neighborhood.

We’ve designed our care environment with play and learning areas that allow children to explore various developmentally-appropriate activities based on their interests. Some of our favorite areas include block area (for gross motor skills and problem solving), dramatic play area (for self-expression and empathy), and sensory area (for spatial awareness and learning through the five senses).

Children will have some outdoor time everyday at a local park or playground. Children need space to run, jump, and move!

At Little Angels Wonderschool, I want to provide an environment that supports the cognitive, social, and emotional growth of each child.
