Hello! I am Meneshwarie Hardy, the founder of Lauren’s Place Wonderschool on Prospect Place. I was inspired to start my own program because I saw a need for high-quality care in my community. I have 5 years of experience working with young children. We truly are a family child care program - because my sister oversees our second location. She is Montessori certified and has a lot of experience working with children as well!
Philosophy
“Any child who is self-sufficient, who can tie his shoes, dress or undresses himself, reflects in his joy a sense of achievement the image of human dignity, which is derived from a sense of independence” - Maria Montessori
My daughter, Lauren, is now a graduate from Brooklyn Heights Montessori School: having watched her flourish under the Montessori curriculum, I decided to investigate further. I am very interested in childhood development, so my interest was piqued by watching my daughter’s educational development. Subsequently, I decided to get my certificate in Montessori training. With my newly acquired knowledge, I am happily opened the doors to Lauren’s Place.
Our philosophy: We’re based on the Montessori model for early childhood education, we offer the children a stimulating and nurturing environment for them to grow in. Each child is given the space and time to develop in their own manner.
The guiding principles that serve as the basis for our curriculum are:
- Emphasis oneself directed activities.
- Mixed age grouping, which allows the children to be mentored by their peers, while becoming leaders to others.
- Children learn at their own pace.
- A child-centered approach that helps foster self-esteem and the development of the whole child.
At Lauren’s Place, we will constantly research and keep up to date with the current studies on early childhood development and implement these in our current curriculum when they apply to our standing philosophy
Location
Lauren’s Place Wonderschool on Prospect Place is located in a inviting, welcoming townhouse in the Crown Heights neighborhood.
We’ve designed our care environment with play and learning areas that allow children to explore various developmentally-appropriate activities based on their interests. Some of our favorite areas include sensory area (for spatial awareness and learning through the five senses), block area (for gross motor skills and problem solving), and dramatic play area (for self-expression and empathy).
Children will have some outdoor time everyday in my private yard or outdoor space. Children need space to run, jump, and move!
At Lauren’s Place Wonderschool on Prospect Place, I want to provide a loving home away from home.
