Our Teachers
Melonie graduated from Temple University in 1996. After shifting gears from journalism in 2013, she answered God’s calling and began an after school program for troubled youth in North Carolina. She has since moved to Nevada where she has embarked on daycare ownership! She is most passionate about developing relationships with her students and their families. She believes that small class size and the development of a strong community allow her and her team to really know each child as an individual and to provide a solid and supportive foundation in the early years.
Philosophy
At SOAR Childcare Academy it is our mission to create a safe and caring community of creativity minded, independent thinking young people. Our program is a place where children can learn through doing, invent through making, and solve problems by working together. We believe that when children are truly engaged with their environment, have an opportunity to explore and plenty of play based discovery time…magic happens. Our team of experienced and innovative teachers do this by creating a space driven by the play, exploration, adventure and the interests and ideas of each child.
About our program
At SOAR Childcare Academy, we teach the concepts of math, science, engineering, art, social sciences and early literacy through our play-based, child-led curriculum. We use the interests and ideas of the children as a jumping off place. The materials are open-ended and invite discovery. Children make their own investigations and draw their own conclusions whenever possible. We have a leadership based model for our children. Stressing the importance of being an independent thinker, nurturing creative expression and never following the crowd.
