Erica Jackson, founder and CEO of “Every Step of the Way Child Care Program”. I have 4 children of my own, and was born January 13, 1991 in Jersey City, New Jersey, and graduated Dr. Charles P. DeFuccio elementary school in 2006 and went on to complete high school in 2009 at Abraham Lincoln High School. I attended Hudson County Community College but had to put it on hold because of my children and being a single parent. I began my work by way of transporting children to school at Atlantic Express Incorporation.
Later, I began to move forward and landed another job in 2012 working at Jersey City Child Development in Jersey City, NJ. This was a Per-diem job where I volunteered with working with children and later offered a full time position working in the classroom. However, Jersey City Child Development had negotiations with another agency and was renamed Greater Bergen Community Action.
In 2014 I was offered a full position at Greater Bergen Community Action as a home visitor and provided community resources such as low income assistance and Medicaid. In addition, I spent time helping children to develop social, communication, and cognitive skills, as well as fine motor and gross skills. I worked in this position for two years.
In 2014, I received my Child Development Associate Certification (CDA) specializing in infants and toddlers from Hudson County Community College in Jersey City, New Jersey. In 2017, I was moved to a center based classroom to work with children 0-3 years old, which I have been doing for eight years. I completed the coursework for day care ownership certification at International Association Career College (IAP). While completing my search to become a day care owner, I came across Wonder School Academy where they have been coaching me through my process. I am honored to have found this great school, because they have been educating me on how to run and start my business.
After many years of working with children I knew in my heart that this is my life assignment. Working with children is my inspiration and total dedication to “Every Step of the Way Child Care”
Philosophy
Here at Every step of the way child care program, we provide gentle, loving, nurturing and fulltime care. The most important thing about caring for children, is making them feel safe and secure when they are around you. Building relationships with children is an important key when caring for children. Once you have built a teacher and child interaction, the beginning years of a child’s life are critical for development. A child’s main way of learning and developing is through play. Children thrive when they are placed into a safe environment and can access early learning opportunities. I will be providing a developmentally age appropriate environment where children will feel safe and secure while in my care. I want to make all my children and families feel safe, especially if I’m going to be your child’s teacher and provider. Every family should feel safe and welcome when arriving, and giving a great impression, also communicating with their Childs teacher. This is why Every Step of The Way Child Care Program, will be providing parent meetings, socializations and at least offered to volunteer once a month. At these meeting we will discuss the programs curriculum, health and nutrition meals, why we provide ages and stages questionnaires and answer any questions and concerns parents may have.
