OSSIE M. CALHOUN – PROGRAM DIRECTOR Greetings All, I’m Ossie Calhoun owner and Program Director of Ossie’s Academy of Phenomenal Minds. OAPM is blessed to have highly qualified educators and/are certified in Infant, Adult CPR and First Aid. The Academy also has 24/hr. surveillance cameras surrounding the property for reassurance of safety and peace of mind. Ms. Ossie has an associated degree in Business Administration from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and a Bachelor’s Degree in Child and Family Studies with an emphasis in Family Relations and a minor in Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi. Her favorite thing about what she does is building a rapport with children and parents developing a strong relationship that will foster growth and development in each uniquely own individual. She has been in the education industry for over 28 years. Ms. Ossie has worked with the Head Start programs serving Harrison counties where she served as a lead teacher interacting with families and children ages 3-5 years old on a daily basis. She has also worked with the Public Schools in Harrison County where she served as a PreK teacher interacting with four- and five-year-old children and working with families on a daily basis on strategies to improve social/emotional skills, and academic readiness for kindergarten. There is no DOUBT that she loves what she does for children, families and the community.

Ms. Ossie has 2 grown daughters and 2 granddaughters ages of 4 months & 7 years old. She enjoys spending time with family and friends and loves singing, having fun with her students, watching the sunset, quiet times at the beach watching the calming waters and hot herbal teas. She would describe herself as a positive, energetic, empowering, loving and caring teacher that has a flexible style of teaching that can cater to all students and abilities. He started after school began and was behind a little bit but was able to catch up pretty quickly thanks to Ms. Calhoun. She was phenomenal!!!! My name is Merle, the mother of Simone who is currently attending, Ossie’s Academy of Phenomenal Minds. It’s such a loving, caring, safe, clean, friendly environment. Ms. Calhoun is amazing at what she does! My daughter comes home daily, excited to tell me what she has learned and did for the day while at school. I love bringing my 4 month old baby girl to Ossie’s Academy of Phenomenal Minds. Ms calhoun makes the atmosphere as comfortable as when my babygirl is at home with me. Ms. Calhoun is a wonderful phenomenal teacher. I see why “Phenomenal” is part to her business name lol. Even at 4 months I still receive daily reports, regarding my daughte’s eating, sleep, mood changes, and bathroom schedules. My children and I have had such a wonderful experience at Ossie Academy. Ossie Academy provides an educational and playful environment for children, while ensuring safety. My children look forward to attending camp every summer. They love Ms. Calhoun and the Friday field trips most of all. I especially admire and appreciate her care for my daughter with special needs. We loved Ossie’s Academy of Phenomenal Minds! Our son excelled with letters and numbers the way Ms.Calhoun taught. He wanted to go to school everyday! Philosophy/Mission– Ossie’s Academy of Phenomenal Minds welcomes you to a loving, safe and nurturing atmosphere that is conducive for learning. OAPM Christian preschool atmosphere creates and stimulates the minds of our young generation preparing them for important life skills that will foster self-esteem to optimal personal growth. Each unique child will have the opportunity to explore his/her world socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually. Vision- Sharpening Young Minds for Future Success! Purpose- To Empower the next generation to be Unique, Confident, and Great in whatever the Future holds.

Location

We’re minutes from Pass Road located in the community of Soria City; which are surrounded by older homes yet in a peaceful and quiet location. We are on the eastside of the railroad tracks and approximately two block from the beach which will lead you onto hwy 90 going east or west.

About our program

What makes Ossie’s Academy of Phenomenal Minds unique is the peaceful, welcoming small ratio home setting atmosphere that’s excellent for learning. Each child is able to get one on one interaction that is to prepare them for the next level, strengthen their weaknesses and getting them academically and socially ready for kindergarten.
