Our Teachers
Shaquita Jefferson is the Director of TrainUpAChild, an In-Home family child care program in Columbus, MS. She holds a Master’s Degree in Special Education (2019) a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Development (2017), and an Associates Degree from EMCC (Mayhew, MS) (2013). In 2013, she fulfilled her dream of establishing her in-home childcare program after the birth of her son.
Shaquita’s passion lies in developing strong relationships with the children she teaches and their families. She believes that maintaining small class sizes and fostering a sense of community enable her team to truly understand each child as an individual. This approach allows them to provide a solid and supportive foundation during the crucial early years of development.
At TrainUpAChild, they follow a Montessori-inspired philosophy and offer quality education through a play-based, child-led curriculum. Their approach integrates math, science, engineering, art, social sciences, and early literacy. The program encourages children to explore their interests and ideas, fostering a love for learning.
In addition to her role as Director, Shaquita is recognized by the CDA Council as a Professional Development Specialist (PDS) in Mississippi. Her commitment to early childhood education and her dedication to creating a nurturing environment make her an invaluable asset to the community.

About our program
At our school, we teach the concepts of math, science, engineering, art, social sciences and early literacy through our play-based, child-led curriculum. We use the interests and ideas of the children as a jumping off place. The materials are open-ended and invite discovery. Children make their own investigations and draw their own conclusions whenever possible.
After-school/homeschooling programs are offered as well.
