About our program
Curriculum At JLFCCH, our curriculum philosophy is based on the belief that children learn best through hands-on experiences and play. Our activities and playtime provide opportunities for growth in social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development. Throughout the day, your child will engage in various activities that encourage exploration and learning about the world. Drama, science, math, art, reading readiness, computer skills, and fine and gross motor development are all integral components of our active learning centers. At the teacher’s discretion, a workbook may be requested to enhance your child’s learning experience.
Screen Time At JLFCCH, children will engage in screen time and media use only when it enhances their learning experience. All screen time will be monitored by an adult, and children will be allowed to participate in screen-based activities for no more than two hours per week. Various forms of technology may be used as an exploratory opportunity, but no screen time will be permitted for children under the age of two.
To ensure best practices, staff members receive annual professional development on screen time guidelines, and families are provided with relevant information throughout the year.
Nutrition JLFCCH promotes healthy eating habits by providing children with nutritious meals and snacks that include lean proteins, whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and dairy. Meals and snacks are low in sugar and fats, with minimal processed foods.
We encourage children to try developmentally appropriate portions, and they are provided with child-sized tables, utensils, and serving dishes during mealtimes. Outside of mealtime, children are given opportunities to develop their pouring and scooping skills, which support family-style dining.
During meals, staff members model positive eating habits by eating with the children. Additionally, nutrition education is provided at least twice a year to staff, children, and parents to reinforce healthy eating habits.
All menus meet the daily nutritional requirements established by the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and are posted weekly for parents to review. If your child has special dietary needs or allergies, please discuss the menu with Ms. Michelle Rowles.
Outside food is not permitted in the facility. However, arrangements can be made if you’d like to provide a special snack for a birthday or other event.
Physical Activity At JLFCCH, children engage in daily outdoor play for at least one hour, as long as weather and air quality conditions allow. Outdoor play and physical activity times vary depending on age group and weather conditions.
Physical activity includes both:
Structured play (led by an adult caregiver) Unstructured play (child-led free play) Children should be dressed appropriately for the weather, including seasonal clothing and proper footwear, to ensure they can move freely, play safely, and fully participate in outdoor activities.
