Our Teachers

Mrs. Sharon Dorow

Mrs. Dorow earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education in 1984 from Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN. Alongside raising three sons with her husband Eric, she initiated St. John’s Lutheran School’s Pre-Kindergarten program in 1986 and taught in the program for several years before becoming the Kindergarten teacher in 2001. Since 2009, Mrs. Dorow has taught 1st, 2nd, Kindergarten, and Pre-Kindergarten grades at St. John’s, and she also directs various musical choirs at St. John’s Lutheran Church. She actively seeks workshops to stay updated on early education methods, embodying a loving, energetic, and enthusiastic teaching style. Her dedication to teaching extends to sharing the love of Jesus with her students.

Philosophy

While focusing on basic educational skills, the program also dedicates ample time to play and experiential learning. A special emphasis is placed on teaching the Bible to instill knowledge about Jesus Christ and encourage gratitude and moral values.

Location

Westland, MI, is a suburban city located in Wayne County, just west of Detroit. Known for its family-friendly atmosphere and affordable living, it offers a blend of residential neighborhoods, shopping, and green spaces. Westland boasts the popular Westland Shopping Center and a variety of local businesses, restaurants, and parks, including Hines Park, which offers scenic trails and outdoor activities. The city is part of the larger Metro Detroit area, providing easy access to urban amenities while maintaining a quieter, suburban feel.

About our program

St. John’s Preschool, established in 2014, offers both full-day and half-day programs for children ages 3-4 (by September 1st). Our program balances foundational educational skills with plenty of play and experiential learning. We emphasize teaching the Bible, helping children learn about their Savior, Jesus, and encouraging thankful, moral living. Licensed and well-staffed, we provide a safe, developmentally appropriate environment while striving to keep rates affordable for our community’s families.
