Our Teachers

Hello! My name is Mrs. Hix (Sarah) and I am the director and lead care provider at Blessed Beginnings. I was a children’s event coordinator for many years. I also worked in music ministry instructing elementary children in grades preschool through fifth grade. Most recently I was a school bus driver for students K-12. I had a Special Education bus route for elementary students as well as a General Education bus route for intermediate, middle, and high school students.

My husband (Nate) was a law enforcement officer for 7 years. Before this, he was a care provider in the Child and Adolescent Unit at Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services for many years. We are blessed that we now get to work as a team! Together we are passionate about providing our four children with a strong foundation rooted in faith and family. We have two boys - ages 9 and 7, and two girls - ages 5 and 3. Some of our children are homeschooled while some attend a private school. They love to invite their friends to feel comfortable and at home while they are here!

Our Mascots are Lillie and Millie, our Newfoundland and Newfie/Great Pyrenees Mix. They are the sweetest girls that were puppies with our babies and have grown up with kids sitting on their heads and playing with their tails. Half of our indoor daycare area is a dog-free zone, but these pups are more than happy to cuddle with kiddos that are in search of doggy snuggles in our dog-friendly-zone! We also have 14 chickens that are very friendly and love getting petted and getting treats from the kids while they help us collect eggs each day!

Philosophy

We respect and embrace that each child is unique and has their own individual interests and learning styles. This is why we feel that child-led play is so important! We believe that each kiddo deserves to have their individual needs supported and have the opportunity to move at their own pace. Providing a variety of options for the kids to choose from is an integral part of our every day.

Our classroom is our gathering space for hands-on and group activities such as crafts and group tactile sensory play (i.e. play-dough, slime, etc.). We may participate in other group activities in this room including puzzles, board games, coloring, group educational games, and the like. Our library and chalkboard wall are also accessible for the kids to explore here!

In addition to our classroom, there are multiple options for children to choose from during their free-play time. These include, but are not limited to, the play-kitchen, dress-up area, musical instruments, a multitude of toys, the magnetic wall, and more! There are different rooms the children may choose from to use our indoor sensory swings and slides, climbing rope, building cushions, ball pit, and blocks, just to name a few!

We place a large emphasis on social emotional learning and development. Diane Alber’s SPOT Series is the foundation of our Calming Corner. Being able to name our emotions really helps to communicate our needs throughout the day. These are great tools for us to refer to!

Our outdoor space feels like a large, wooded sanctuary enclosed within the safety of a surrounding privacy fence. Not only is there a lot of natural landscape for the kids to enjoy, but also a playhouse village, built-in sandbox, brand new swing set in 2024, and concrete patio large enough for tricycles, scooters, and chalk to coincide at once!

We value a nurturing, safe, stimulating environment anchored in the Love of Christ!

Location

We’re located on a dead-end street with a cul-de-sac. Our street has a very limited amount of traffic that drives very slow. This is a neighborhood filled with families with young children so going for walks down our road is always a joy!

We’re off of the beaten path, yet only moments away from the highway. M-120/Holton Rd. is right around the corner, but you’d never know it with how tucked away we are! Reeths-Puffer bus routes come down our street. We’re less than 10 minutes from Twin Lake Elementary, Reeths-Puffer Elementary, Muskegon Nature Preserve, and more! The Lakeshore Children’s Museum Center is less than 15 minutes away, as are several parks, lakes, and libraries.

We have a 15 passenger van and we hope for field trips to be in our future. Lewis Adventure Farm and Zoo, Country Dairy, and Double JJ are all within 25 minutes.

Another perk is that several gas stations, restaurant options, and Meijer are located 3-5 minutes from our daycare, so for those quick dinner nights or store runs after daycare pickup, it should conveniently be right on the way home!

About our program

At Blessed Beginnings Family Childcare we are dedicated to providing a home away from home for each child and parent/guardian. It is important to us that our environment is dependable, safe, and nurturing, rooted in the Love of Christ. We strive to provide high-quality child care by creating stimulating spaces that encourage and promote the development and growth of every child through play and exploration.

It means a lot to us that we have a mutually transparent relationship with parents built on respect, trust, and open communication. Together we are a team that is capable of providing the best care when support and cooperation are present!
