Philosophy
Because families are our children’s first teachers, we believe a collaborative approach ensures children receive educational opportunities both here at our program and at home. Partnerships with families is a vital component of a quality program, so families are encouraged to participate in various aspects. Surveys, meetings, and other activities will be available to help families increase their knowledge and understanding of child growth and development and to assist them in preparing their child for kindergarten.
Using our formal curriculum of The Creative Curriculum, children will learn through topic studies and through a thoughtfully prepared environment. Daily activities will include both quiet and active, individual, small and large groups, fine and gross motor, child and staff led, developmentally appropriate literacy and language, early math, technology and science.
MACCC, in collaboration with each child’s parent or guardian, performs screenings for developmental delays, and/or behavioral concerns. Our center uses Ages and Stages Questionnaires (ASQs) that use one-on-one activity-based assessment, direct observation, and parent/guardian input to provide a clear picture of each individual child. Staff consider each child’s results by gathering information to determine timely and appropriate follow-up on issues of concern. ASQs will be completed upon enrollment by the child’s family, and then will be completed again annually by both staff & family. Additional ASQs will be performed as necessary. Teachers complete an assessment on all children at least twice per year and share progress with parents/guardians at family conferences.
