Our Teachers

Greetings Everyone. I am Valerie Parker, aks Ms. Parker in the Brightmoor community where I reside as youth advocate and community activist. In 2008, I established the Fayz Group, a nonprofit organization, opening a non-traditional OST program on Fenkel and Lasher closing in 2010 due to funding.

Ms. Parker has recently established Brightmoor Urban Training (BUT) LLC to assist in providing a healthy safe environment for targeting at-risk youths and low-income families working poor with STREAM focus. Valerie Parker is an Educator and an Afrocentric Sociologist with focus on 21st Century Community Learning.

Masters: Sociologist: School, Society, & Violence Masters: African American Studies: Postbellum

All employees must heed to the State of Michigan Child Care Licensing requirements. All employees are in the process of obtaining their MiYDA credentials. Our focus is to provide a high-quality OST childcare learning facility for the youths in the Brightmoor community in conjunction with ECE providers in the Brightmoor community.

Philosophy

Our facility will provide a high quality nontraditional out of school time facility with focus on STREAM. BUT is a faith based Afrocentric facility. BUT will offer Saturday school programs with focus on self-awareness, character building and financial literacy.

About our program

Our childcare facility offers Extended Learning Opportunities (ELO) every Saturday. We focus on STREAM, science, technology, reading, writing, arts, and math being a continuum of day school. ELO with Belle Island Aquarium visits, Museum visits, and summer learning with nature. We allow children to be children as they learn how to learn.
