Our Teachers

Regina Duncan, Director My dad was a former police officer in Detroit,Mi and my mom retired after 35 years as a registered nurse. My grandmother, Uncle, Aunt, and cousin are all nurses. I pursued nursing for seven years at Meridian Community College 1996 - 2003 and Wayne County Community College 1991-1995 Washtenaw Community College 2003 - 2009 Early Childhood Development and presently seeking an associate’s and bachelor’s in Child Phycology 2012. -2013 Child Time Plymouth Rd Mi. Assistant Teacher, Lead Teacher 1993-1995 GMAC Assembly I believe that children are my destiny. Children have followed me around since I was 12 years old. I started working with children 25 years ago to Homeschool my daughter, Rochelle Raebyone Jenkins. My daughter passed away accidentally while, on vacation with her father. She was pulled down, by a current at Prier Marquette in Muskegon, Mi. July 18,2013 my daughter was 15. I didn’t have the heart to hear children and not hear my sweet child laughing for almost ten years. I worked 16 hour days, for over six years,as a Unit Supervisor over staff of 10 to 15 men and women at Eisenhower Center. 20 or less traumatic brain injured men that lived on campus. I began to truly heal when I returned to church and nothing could stop my tears for days, but children. Children are my heart beat. I have tried many different titles as Senior Armor Bearer, Intercessor, Usher, Medical assistant Everest 2009, Nursing Home Assistant,2015. I found my joy in children! I take watching over children very serious and have had not one injury in 2 years as a director and owner of The Daycare Ladies Network Family Home Care. In 2020, I lost all my money and work developing a building, due to the pandemic. The building closed and during quarantine I continued to fight for my life,by opening in my home. Thanks to God almighty and Great Start to Quality grants I am here! Healed and Rejoicing ten years later as I prepare to move into a new location and new Center!

Philosophy

At The Daycare Ladies Network, we strive to create a safe and caring community of young explorers inspired by the Montessori philosophy. Our program is a place where children can learn through choice, become confident in decision making, and learning while playing. We believe that children who are first acknowledged as an individual and cared for independently are more engaged with learning and their environment. Our team has a regular schedule for eating, resting, classwork and playtime. We believe that children should be able to have options at not always follow a plan of 8 or more children. I push my children with learning because at this age they love it. I supercede what is considered standard learning by allowing to do art or classwork. Every child is different and come from various backgrounds. We are here for the children. Whatever they need to be successful is the goal. Here at The Daycare Ladies Network we incorporate swimming classes, CPR classes, musicals, theater, museums, aquariums, and karate/boxing to broaden their minds, interests, and ideas while also preparing them for life. I have worked in the big industry child programs and I was horrified,by the way the teachers made fun of the children! Lead Teachers as well kill a child’s self esteem at infancy,by saying,” You need a haircut”, as if he can take care of that on his own! It saddened me, to see the children that were sick and still had to go outside because that was the “program”. Or children that came to school with a tummy ache and had to play. These children couldn’t lay down. They had to go home. I vowed to be different. I promised to do right by the children. People prey on these innocent children! In society and in business. No. Children should have a chance to be children, before we compare them. Before we command them to compete to be the best. The children are the program. It’s not about the building,or the landscaping it’s about the children. Somewhere we missed it with children. We as adults have to create a safe place for children to thrive. We are called to do better by them. We are called to protect them and then teach them. In no way am I referring to any specific programs, being that I have worked and observed several programs during college.

Location

We are located on Washtenaw in the Glencoe Hills Complex. We are a few steps from all major freeways and the bus stop. U of M is five minutes away and a block away from Central Elementary School. A place with plenty running space, several pools, a duck pond, tennis courts, trails, and a playground. Everyday we have different adventures! The children love hiking through the woods, feeding the ducks, learning how to swim, and practicing tennis. At the playground we meet a diversity of families. This is a quiet safe place to capture children’s imagination and fun!
