Philosophy

My personal values and beliefs around teaching and learning are adopted from the theorist, Jean Piaget, who I learned about in my early years of study. Like him, I believe that children learn from their environment, and the set up of the classroom is most important.

In my program, I set up our space to reflect the interest of the children by providing active objects to promote multiple modes of learning. Our environment is ‘print-rich’ in English and Spanish to label many random objects at the children’s eye level in both languages. Our shapes, colors and numbers are also labeled this way. We include books that reflect many cultures.

I can only smile when they respond with ‘You’re welcome!” when I thank them for coming to play w/ me.

Location

Baby Bookworms is located 3 min. from Medstar Good Samaritan Hospital in the Loch Raven (21239) community.

About our program

Baby Bookworms is a theme-based family childcare where each month there is a new learning experience. An area of the outdoor shed is used to house the twelve bins labeled by each month. It is our normal routine that the fourth week of the month be spent returning current themed items to the shed and replacing it w/ the themed items for the next month. An example of things changed include (but not limited to) books, centers, sensory bins, charts, fingerplays, etc. The children are never bored and are constantly being challenged to learn about new things.
