Philosophy
At A Child’s World, we believe that the purpose of education is to stimulate and encourage the development of the whole child; intellectually, physically, socially, and emotionally. The ways children are taught and encouraged in the early years of life construct how they develop and grow. The nurturing care they receive at this critical time affects the long-term development of brains, personalities, values, character, and how they interact socially with others.
Our goal at A Child’s World is to work toward the individual development of your child. We believe in a comprehensive early childhood approach to education that is age and developmentally appropriate and is based on solid research backed child-development principles. The experiences encountered each day are designed to stimulate growth through active involvement, child participation, age appropriateness, cognitive appropriateness, and developmental relevance to the child and holistic learning.
In our setting, all children have a stable, safe environment filled with challenging opportunities to learn and explore through play and discovery. Activities are made available that encompass literacy, math, art, music, and movement. Each classroom is rich with conversation, books, and reading. Our teachers observe and plan curricula reflective of the interest and diversity of children and families represented in each class.
All areas of the child’s development are interwoven into the activities they encounter. Both free play and directed play are important components of our program. Whether they are running outdoors, creating a work of art, or quietly listening to a story, they will be learning. All our curriculum and activities are consistent with the Foundations of the Indiana Academic Standards for Young Children from Birth to Age Five and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
The family is the core of A Child’s World. A Child’s World is designated by the State of Indiana as licensed Childcare center. However, because of our commitment to the children and families we serve, we are voluntarily participating in the state’s quality rating system called “Paths to Quality”. For the health, safety, and education of our children, this program requires more rigorous standards above the state minimums.
About our program
Welcome to A Child’s World
Begun in 2001 by owner Cathy Cook as an extension of her in-home childcare location, A Child’s World Child Care provides quality childcare to families in the Indianapolis area. We desired to provide childcare that was high quality and affordable to all our neighbors. A Child’s World is home to 104 children aged 6 weeks to 6 years old.
In 2010, A Child’s World transitioned into a licensed center and enrolled in the Paths to Quality program. In 2014, ACW was one of a handful of privately owned childcare centers asked to be a partner with United Way of Central Indiana. A Child’s World received a Paths to Quality level 3 rating in 2015 and has maintained that rating annually. In 2016, ACW remodeled the building, adding two additional pre-k classrooms and an additional infant room.
We consider our staff and students as family and look forward to your family joining ours.
