Philosophy
We believe play is essential in young children’s lives; it is how they naturally learn about the world around them. Through play, children experiment with new ideas, take on adult roles, and clarify concepts they have developed about their world. They learn how to get along with others and how to make friends. During play, children build their own knowledge by having a variety of opportunities to explore, to discover, to question, and to guess about their environment. Children need the opportunity to be a child and develop a curiosity and a love for life. We believe children learn through “hands on” experiences. Children need to be actively involved in the learning process, and the teacher’s role is one of guidance, not dominance. Each day is designed to provide valuable experiences using learning centers. We feel that through active learning, children have the opportunity to develop intellectually, emotionally, creatively, socially, and physically. We believe that if a child learns at an early age to form positive relationships with others, then they will have also learned significant life skills. We feel children develop this skill by having the opportunity to make choices, by learning to express their feelings in an appropriate way, and to accept responsibility for their actions. Our role, as teachers, is to facilitate the development of the whole child. We strive to develop each child’s intellectual, social, emotional, physical, and creative skills in an age-appropriate manner. Our goal is to partner with each family to promote each child’s love for learning.
