Our Teachers

Boise Cooperative Preschool is extremely proud of our outstanding and dedicated teaching staff, many of whom were once themselves, parents of BCP students. Our staff meets all state requirements for their positions and every teacher has had many years of experience working with children. As a cooperative preschool, our student’s learning environment is also enriched by the loving involvement of parent volunteers in the classroom. You can learn a bit about our staff below, but more importantly, please come and visit so that we can meet you in person.

Philosophy

Cooperative preschools are one of the oldest types of preschools. A cooperative preschool is one that is run with parent volunteers. There are four part-time teachers on staff and the new addition of a part-time director, but parents are scheduled to help out in the classroom and with all aspects of running the preschool, which can include administrative support, cleanup, and food prep. Because parents are giving their time for free, the preschool can operate with fewer paid staff members and at lower costs than traditional preschool. BCP’s play-based model allows children to play and discover what they want to learn about. Our teachers allow them to explore their interests. As a cooperative, teachers and families work together to create a classroom community where children are nurtured and supported in their exploration and discoveries. Having teachers, parents, and children in the classroom creates a healthy environment for learning and growing.

About our program

For 50 years, Boise Cooperative Preschool (BCP) has been a leading play-based preschool in the Treasure Valley. BCP has been located in the Boise Bench neighborhood since September 2002. Boise Cooperative Preschool values the importance of all aspects of human development- social, emotional, creative, physical, cognitive, and verbal. We “play” with letters and numbers and expand our knowledge of basic concepts. We explore, create, experiment, practice, socialize, and learn to value and respect individuality. There is an emphasis on the learning process rather than a specific result. Every child and parent in the Boise Cooperative Preschool is valued and supported. We know that learning is fun and the possibilities are endless!

Admissions

BCP is operated mainly through the volunteer efforts of the parents who are its members. Our only paid staff are the teachers. Boise Cooperative Preschool depends on the members running the school by working on committees, serving on the Board of Directors, helping out where help is needed, and generally using their unique talents and energies. In order to keep our operating costs and tuition low, each family is required to become a member of BCP with duties and responsibilities.
