Our Teachers

Shayna and Loren, both natives of San Francisco’s Richmond District, bring a wealth of experience to their child care practice. Shayna has dedicated over 25 years to caring for children and infants, while Loren has contributed more than 15 years to the field. They have nannied, operated a daycare, and Shayna is also a certified Postpartum Doula.

With extensive knowledge of child development, Shayna and Loren foster an environment that balances structure with the freedom for exploration. They believe in allowing children the space to grow independently, while providing a supportive and guided framework.

While their approach is grounded in Montessori principles, Shayna and Loren are also warm, engaging, and delightfully playful. They maintain a down-to-earth attitude and infuse their interactions with fun, ensuring that learning remains an enjoyable experience. They view patience as a means of maintaining a positive attitude while awaiting progress.

Their method emphasizes emotional understanding and personal space. They introduce the concept of “Time Out” not as a form of punishment but as a safe space for reflection and emotional regulation. After a period of reflection, they guide children in expressing their feelings appropriately, always concluding with a hug and a reassuring environment.

Shayna and Loren’s less traditional approach sets them apart from other providers. Their passion for arts and crafts extends to all age groups, including infants, ensuring that their activities are diverse and engaging.

We worked with Shayna for our infant (from 2 weeks old to 5mo old) and as interim caretaking for both our girls (now 6mo and 3years). Shayna is the baby/child whisperer! She is gentle, caring and attentive with our baby. She also knows what babies need at each stage in their development. She has been great w our toddler too, knowing how to get a procrastinating toddler ready quickly and having fun with her while teaching her listening skills. Shayna is amazing with both girls at once! Her attentiveness and confidence with littles makes her quite able to handle them both. Our girls love Shayna and we do too! We have a very open policy for communication and respect. Communication and respect is the key to a healthy relationship and trust between families and providers. It is our job to make sure that we have this for the better of your child.

We are located in a prime location to local playgrounds. We love taking walks throughout the neighborhood. We are located near the Golden Gate bridge for traveling parents.
