Our Teachers
Hello! I am Miriam Alfaro, the founder of Miriam’s Wonderschool. I was inspired to start my own program because I have loved working with children since I was young. I have 8 years of experience working with young children.
I also have 14 Early Childhood Education credits. I am constantly taking new professional development classes and strive to improve my craft constantly.
My assistants name is Laura Alfaro. She has been working here for 3 years and is also my daughter :).
Achievements
Philosophy
Here at Miriam’s Wonderschool, we prepare your child for the future by introducing foundational values and encouraging a drive to learn. Our children practice giving and receiving respect from others, which prepares them for the social emotional demands of school and professional life later down the road. Our teachers are caring, kind, and nurturing, but also instill a sense of independence and responsibility in everything we do with the kids.
Miriam’s Wonderschool is a Spanish bilingual program, so the Spanish language and culture is weaved seamlessly into the school day. Young children are uniquely primed to learn language, and learning a second language has incredible cognitive benefits outside of simple language acquisition. Introducing a global perspective and acceptance of diversity in people and thought is important to us.
Our parents are a part of our school family; we maintain open communication with parents, sharing both their child’s challenges and triumphs. We believe a strong partnership is important to the child’s growth and progress in the program.
Location
Miriam’s Wonderschool is located in a cozy, bright apartment in the SoMa neighborhood.
We’ve designed our care environment with play and learning areas that allow children to explore various developmentally-appropriate activities based on their interests. Some of our favorite areas include dramatic play area (for self-expression and empathy), manipulatives and math area (for fine motor skills and beginning math concepts), and block area (for gross motor skills and problem solving).
Children will have some outdoor time everyday at a local park or playground. Children need space to run, jump, and move!
At Miriam’s Wonderschool, I want to provide an environment that supports the cognitive, social, and emotional growth of each child.
